questions about brightness/histogram when scanning/printing by
Bob Smith
Hi,
I'm in the process of scanning a whole bunch of old slides, but I'm
discovering a small problem with brightness:
- I normally have my monitor brightness set to about 70% brightness.
- A lot of my old slides are very dark requiring me to adjust the
histogram/brightness significantly so they...

48 bit vs. 32 bit by
Bob Smith
Is there truly any noticeable difference between the 2 different color bits
when printing on a photo printer? both bits seem to represent millions of
colors. The only difference is in the file sizes. If one was scanning
slides/photos what would be the best choice....48 bit at a lower resolution
or...

Detecting Intruders on Your System Is Fun and Easy
Well, perhaps the title of this chapter is a slightly misleading.
Supposedly, becoming an intruder is fun and easy, too. If you want to
detect intruders, you should know what type of system resources can be
depended on for providing evidence....

hp s20 owners, some good news and bad news by
Bongo
If you are still messing with hp s20 film scanner, you should read this tip.
I don't know if it's original, but I haven't read it anywhere.
I have been stuck with s20 for three years now. And I still think it's
decent scanner for occasional non-perfectionist film scanning. Only problem
which...

epson perfection V600 scanner screwing up by
Boomer
This scanner worked fine for about 8 months. Now, about every 6th scan,
the scanner makes extra noise and produces a blank white scan. Scanning
again immediately produces a good scan.
I am guessing that the extra noise might be some mechanical guide inside
needing a little oil. Anyone else have...

Smart Panel for Epson 1250 Perfection Scanner by
Boppy
This software seems to be impossible to find - I've mislaid the disk
that came with my scanner and like lots of people, am reluctant to lay
out the $30 odd for Epson to send me a replacement. Apparently it is
not downloadable.
If anyone has a copy of this software sitting around, would you...

Boris Nienke
Hi,
is there a website out there that reviews scanners? For example:
"www.druckerchannel.de" (german site) is for printer-reviews only. A very
great ressource if you like to buy a printer.
But what if you like to buy a scanner? i havn't found any good website yet

Canon 9900F Software? by
bowser
Has Canon improved on their software for the 9900F scanner? Initial reports
of the scanner said that while the hardware is nice, the software needs
improvement. I was wondering if Canon has issued any updates, and if those
updates are worthwhile.

Scanning film on Canon LiDE 600F by
bregent
I recently purchased a 600F as a general purpose scanner, but since it came with
a film adapter I've decided to scan all of our old photo (lots). I'm sure it's
not the best for film scanning, but the output quality is good enough for our
purposes.
One thing I haven't figured out is how to scan...

Scanner to Printer by
Brey
With Windows 98 and a HP Scanner on a SCSI board, I could
scan and have it go directly to the printer. It was a very
nice home copy machine. With my current scanners, I can
not find software to do this. Anyone have a clue?

I downloaded and installed a driver for my Epson 1200U scanner but now
I find there are only a few options when I scan documents. I use to
get more choices. Does anyone know why?

HP 6110 or Brother 5200c - using ADF for Acrobat by
Brian
I'm thinking of purchasing either HP 6110 Multi-function machine or Brother
5200c since they both have an automatic document feeder.
The reason I want an ADF is that I sometimes scan like 10 pagegs at once,
and I'd like to make those ten pages into a PDF format. I use Acrobat 5.0
Could anyone who...

Polaroid SprintScan 4000 Installation Problem: Windows XP by
Brian Dipert
Hi folks, hopefully someone has the answer to this problem which is
baffling the heck of of me. Running Windows XP Professional, initially
without ASPI installed (but I've now installed the latest Adaptec
build, and verified that the installation was successful, as part of
the debugging process)....

Scanner for 2.5 X 3.5 inch Negatives by
Brian Pears
Hi
Can anyone please tell me if any of the popular (ie cheap) scanners
will handle 2.5 X 3.5 inch negatives without the need for a
separately purchased adapter?
If not, what is the cheapest way of tackling these - I have a few
hundred, so having these scanned professionally is not an option.

Strange Epson 4180 Problem by
Brian Pears
Hi
The problem I'm having is that the area actually scanned does
not exactly correspond with the marquee I draw on the preview.
I'm trying to scan photographs and include a narrow border around
the image - but when I carefully set the marquee on the zoomed
preview window and do a scan, the area...

Kodachrome slide scanner by

I've read every message and review for the last 3 years on film
scanners and still can't make up my mind. I have a large number of
older kodachrome (some 20 years old) that I want to scan. I want the
best quality that I can get from these. The Nikon 5000 seems to have
the best quality overall, but...
