RAID 0 by
Bruce T. Berger
No. The Adaptec card writes the RAID info to a different part of the drive
than the Promise & they are not in any way compatible. The easiest would be
to first load the Adaptec drivers then do a drive image to a third drive
(perhaps an external USB) & then restore the image to your new...

Does ATA-133 matter? by
Hiawatha Bray
Someone else in this newsgroup has urged me to remove the ATA-133 PCI card
that came with my new hard drive, and just use the ATA-100 IDE interface on
the motherboard. His argument is that the extra speed of the 133 interface
is virtually never needed.
Anybody know if this is true? Where can I...

World doesn't make sense (at least my IDE setup doesn't ;-)) by
Carlos Moreno
I'm very clueless about this...
I have an ASUS A7V motherboard, with an Athlon 1GHz.
Have a couple of Western Digital ATA100 hard drives
(40G + 80G).
So, here's the puzzler: when connected to the "default"
IDE connectors of the motherboard (which I'm assuming
are ATA66), the speed reported is...

Help!!! My MBR has fecked off! by
Sport Billy
Don't ask how cos I'm not really sure, but something has clearly happened to
the MBR on my IBM deskstar 120GXP (61gigs official, about 57 in reality).
I had three partitions: One NTFS partition installed with WINXP (about
15gigs), one FAT32 (about 30gigs), and one FAT32 (exactly 10.9gigs). I...

Partitioning and Formatting by
BP
Hello again. While I await my new (reconditioned) drive from Maxtor I'd like
to know how most of you partition and format new drives for a Windows
system. 1) Use Maxtor MaxBlast 3 software or similar for other brands of
HDD. 2) use DOS FDISK and FORMAT commands. Or 3) some other utility.
