describe your home network setup by
Trevor Smithson
So we get plenty of posts here about individual PCs and their components...how about we all desribe
what makes up our home networks. I'll start:
modem: DSL/uverse with integrated router/switch/AP, provided by AT&T. Works fine but doesn't have
802.11n.
switch: An SMC 10/100, has never needed a...

[OT] Memory for mobile phone by
Don
I have two questions about memory for (1) cellphones and for (2) USB
drives.
When I build a PC I always use branded quality memory such as Crucial.
Low grade PC memory can take hours of debugging when it starts to fail
and is poor value in the long run.
On the other hand, is that true for...

Chip set fan noisy - need replacement recommendation please by
goldtech
Hi,
I have a motherboard with I think an Nforce4 chip set. The chip set
fan is very noisy and is slowing driving me crazy. I tried putting a
drop of fine oil in the fan but it didn't help. I want to get a new
fan.
The new fan does not have to be exactly like the stock fan but it
needs to somehow...

I left the machine on, when I came back, it was off and it won't powerup.

I thought I could take a shortcut and just replace the PS, but the new
PS doesn't give a powerlight or run its fan either. I used the...

Activity by
Bear Bottoms
I'm partly in favour of frivolous activity because a life without fun isn't
much of a life. Mucking about is also an absolutely essential component of
the creative process.

are there counterfeit Antec cases? by
Orson Cart
I came across a PC case: the front looks like an old Solution SLK3800B model
that I had, but it has a windowed side like the Plusview II.
Except this side is screwed on, instead of quick-release latches. Also,it is
light and tinny, and parts poorly aligned, unlike any other Antec case I had.
It has...

What the hell? by
Flasherly[_2_]
Yesterday put in a scavenged Pentium I got for $7. 4 - x15 multipler
200mhz or 3Ghz. Left everything stock for BIOS setting. The P4
replaced a Celeron D 2.4Ghz I bought new with an ASUS MB. Togther,
they've been rock solid for a couple or more years. The P4, however,
is better and faster...

Xonar DG / C-Media 8786/V100 DAC drivers by
Flasherly[_2_]
Got this $10 soundboard on an express American Express rebate for
another buck off ten at 5-10 days. Pretty good for normally $30-40 or
$80+ for a better board and their V200 Op Amp setup. All I wanted was
fiber-optic S/PDIF output into a Behringer UltraCurve Pro, anyway, so
it's ballpark for...

Ok,
I just played a bit of solo multiplayer, which means I played all alone
against the bandits ! ;)
The first map is kinda interesting and the rest is more or less the same as
the rest of the game, except more difficult and just straight up your ass,
no driving, just running and gunning ! ;)...

Identifying processes accessing disk? by
Davej
I use both XP and Win7 and occasionally I see disk accesses occurring
and would like to know which processes are responsible. Is there any
way to figure this out? Thanks.
