HP 3970 stopped working? by [email protected]
I have had the 3970 running under XP for about 2 years. After initial problems with installation software - it could not seem to handle the idea that there would be two different logins on the machine, and that each one should have access to the scanner (only one login at a time). In any case,...

Omnipage doesn't recognize bold by UM
OmniPage 15, Canon N650U USB scanner. Scanning from book to PDF is very good - but it's almost as if it doesn't even try to correctly format bold characters (always shows up as normal). It handles underline and italics well, though. I did find this Nuance KB...

Need help with UMAX ASTRA 6450. by Jethro
This firewire scanner was given to me, but I can't get it to work. I am running WXP PRO SP2. I have tried all the sources I can find for drivers and software, but nothing seems to work. I note that there is something called 'VISTASCAN X', but as yet I cannot find that animal. I have tried a few...

Warmup -- Turn off? Epson 3490 Photo by journey
I like my scanner, but it keeps needing to warm up. Is there a way I can change the time between warmups, or turn it off and then back on after I am done with a session of scanning?

UMAX ASTRA 6450 Need Something by Jethro
I was given a UMAX ASTRA 6450 FIREWIRE flatbed scanner. I have no manual(s), nor do I have power supply which probably is a Power Adapter. I have firewire, but no adapter. I can't find any specs on what adapter is needed for this scanner. A friend told me 1.7A, 12V, but he is unreachable now,...

Using one scanner's power adapter on another scanner by Jethro
What will happen if I plug my 1220U scanner's power adapter into the my 6450 scanner? Both are 12 Volt, but the 6450 requires 1.7 Amps, the 1220U only 1 Amp. I just want to see if the 6450 will at least power up - someone gave it to me. Thanks Jethro

Hello, group I am scanning 35 mmm negatives. I am using a relatively high resolution (2880 dpi), with a Nikkon Coolscan V. Many of the pictures show with little dots, especially the dark zones. Is there such a thing as too much resolution? I plan to print up to 8 x 10" photos, my printer is a...

Scanning Old Negative and Splicing by ecarecar
I would like to get a Canon LiDE 500F to scan some old negatives. Unfortunately, almost none of them are 35mm. Most are bigger. Is it possible/practical to scan sections of them and then splice them together?

Visioneer 8100 jams by Steve the Wire Puller
I have a Visioneer 8100 that will not scan. The lamp carriage went to the end and started making a loud noise (the belt trying to force the carriage). I opened it up and shoved the carriage all the way back. Now it tries to move the carriage a little and the software comes back and says it's...

Paperport 11 by [email protected]
Be aware that Paperport 11 pro - when installed on an XP machine - with a prior version of PP on it - will strip a dll file and cause the computer to halt in boot with an error dialog. My call to them was useless as the tech person had no clue.

UMAX Powerlook II Trasparency Adapter Problem by Jethro
The transparency adapter on my Powerlook II 'broke'. Seems the thin flat 'ribbon' cable containing 8 conductors, and connecting a small circuit board on the rear of the adapter to a small circuit board on the sliding light-mechanism jammed and actually pulled out of the latter, damaging the...
