I am now very close to booting Windows 7 x64 from USB stick. I use qemu-img and win32diskwriter to convert vmdk to img and then write it to usb stick. I also used testdisk tool to discover what is on usb stick to make sure I don't overwrite the wrong one. More about these tools and their links...

Status update on retro gaming on ms-dos 6.22 on dreampc from 2006 in 2020 by [email protected]
YOyoyoyoHOhohohoh, Wow, it's quite an undertaking to try and get ms-dos and it's games working in a real execution environment. So far I've been messing with zipdrives and zipdisks but got that working as well, under real and virtualize environments which is kinda cool. FAT16 was created on a 4...

Little warning: USB is broken: USB 2.0/3.0 doesn't work on USB 1.0 by [email protected]
Sigh, As far as I know nobody made a video about how usb 2.0/3.0 external harddisks and usb sticks can't work on usb 1.0. The manufacturers kinda implicitely/indirectly mention this but not mentioning usb 1.0 backwards compatibility. So basically this means the USB STANDARD IS BROKEN and...

Judy [Garland 2019] by Flasherly[_2_]
Renée Kathleen Zellweger sounds like a mouthful. There's those pursed lips, to recollect from her Texas roots chainsaw break, Tom Cruise provided, in Jerry McQuire ... her competition being among others Winona Ryder. And there's that same fragile suggestion of underlying sweetness which cements...

craptop died with hard drive, but works with SSD by [email protected]
I had a laptop working fine one day, then next it does not boot. The drive shows up in BIOS, but a disc diagnostic on CD cannot see it. Not many SATA options in BIOS, just a choice of performance or power saving mode. I put the hard drive into a desktop, and it booted and danced with white doves in...

Hello, (See last line for my question in case you want to skip my story so far :)) I am a little into "retro mode" right now. Copieing files from Pentium 166 to IOMEGA ZIPDRIVE, HAHA ! =D Via parallel port, it's going to take 40 minutes to copy 94 MB lol (under windows 98, so it was easy to multi...

VHD (virtual harddisk image) in MS-DOS 6.22 ? by [email protected]
Would be cool if virtual harddisks images (vhd's) could be mounted in ms-dos. Did a little google, but doesn't seem like there is any ms-dos based utility or driver for it... Hmmm... Bye for now, Skybuck.

how mediocre is new QLC SSD? by Fritz Wuehler[_11_]
So the manufacturers think they can get more GB per dollar, becoming closer to spinning disks. But the performance will be slower, also closer to the old school drive. so pffft!

mystery key on laptop by [email protected]
I was given a used Toshiba L500 laptop, and noticed one of the keys seemed to be stuck down. There is no spring under it. I looked up replacement parts keyboards and they all seem to be like that. The key has a rectangle with 12 dots inside. It is between the num lock and scroll lock keys. The user...

unused contacts on PCI-E 16x cards? by [email protected]
Cleaning out the junk cupboard, I removed a graphics card from a HP craputer. It is a fanless 1 GB GT620. I noticed that at least 10% of the edge contacts are missing. So are there unused contacts (for PCI-E version 4 or whatever) or is this a crippled card?
