Disk Doctor stalls at 43% every time by
KingoftheBungle
Hi
I have a Maxtor 160GB 3.5" drive in a USB/Firewire external case
(chipset Prolific 3507). When I try to use Norton Disk Doctor on it,
the test stalls at 43% complete, every time. I tried Check Disk on it
and that also stalls, both in Windows and upon reboot before Windows
loads. It's exactly the...

USB bus power limit for HD by
Clive[_3_]
I currently have 3 2.5" USB external drives (all under 160gb). I use one
for a bootable backup, one to back up my data and one for my pictures
(I'm Wedding photographer).
As the drives are physically small and run directly off the USB bus off
my Mac, I can take them all to shoots. The problem...

SATA HDD disappeared by
goo_lu1
Yesterday night, my house RCD tripped while I'm uploading file to
internet. After recovered PC power, I found that my SATA HDD
disappeared from windows HDD list - other 2 IDE HDD, FDD, DVD drives &
movable drive remained. I opened device manager, selected drives icon
and right clicked on it then...

Promise 20265 not recognising IDE disks 60 Gb by
Neil[_4_]
Hi, on my ECS L7VTA1.1 Motherboard, there are two standard IDE connections,
as well as two Promise connections (IDE3&4) linked to a Promise 20265
Controller. Obviously these can be used for RAID configuring, but I'm not
using RAID at all, and I've used over the past couple of years to just be...

Hard Drive Failure by
[email protected]
Can anyone tell me if going through 5 hard drives in 7 yeas, same box,
is abnormal? I have lost an IBM, a Hitachi, and three Seagates. A
friend says there must be something else wrong, and that to loose so
many drives is abnormal.

NEW HDD? by
nj
hi,
I had 2 hard drives in my desktop. One died ( 40gb), and the other
still lives (an IBM 12GB, DESKSTAR TITAN 3.5' Ultra ATA).
I lost my windows and everything on the 1st one. Life continued with
the IBM intact. Now I want to buy a new HDD, and transfer everything
from the small sized IBM HDD...

round ide cables by
neener
I am cleaning up an old computer and am going to replace the ide cables.
I am debating with myself whether to use round ide or flat ribbon cable...
I can get a good price on 24" round IDE, but as the 24" is longer than
the 18" spec.
Assuming good quality cables, will there be a problem witht he...

HDD Activity LED by
William J. Burlingame
I added an additional SATA controller to my system. The HDD activity
LED is connected to controller on the motherboard. I would like to
hook up a second LED to the pins provided on the add on card. Is
there a product available to plug in? Since the side panel on the
case has a clear window, I...

RAID 0 in external hard drive by
Jokin
Hi everybody,
Is there anyway to create RAID 0 using two external SATA hard drives?
If yes, since the external SATA drives have their own power button
what would occur if I switch off one of the disk?
Thanks,
Jokin

Vista partitioning strategy by
Marcus[_2_]
I'm going to use a 160GB (one disk) windows vista ultimate notebook(4GB
ram). Regardless of what some "experts" state about disk fragmentation, I've
noticed that packing "similar" data on multiple partition, fastens
defragmentation.
That is, I've planned the following disk partitions (NTFS)
C:...

Vista Installation with several HDD installed by
Jeff
Question for the experts,
Can Vista be installed on a new drive while several other drives are already
connected or does the install drive have to be alone during install?
I thought that a prompt might come up during Vista install that gave you a
choice of where to install the OS and one would...

corrupt raid 5, repair/recreate raid? by
OTWarrior via HWKB.com
I have 3 hard disks in a raid 5 and yesterday, one of the disk "failed". So I
selected the option to repair the raid on the drive (which has worked before),
and after about 2 hours, it blue screened my computer.
now it will not boot up, as the WHOLE raid has failed.
Is there a way of recreating...
