HD data Recovery after mistaken partition removal? by
trs80
While recovering from a C drive crash we inadvertently removed the partion
from the D drive.
We have not done anything else to D, no format or anything. It still shows
as D in Windows Explorer but a message comes up that it needs to be
formatted.
Is there a way to restore the data that was on...

Help: Maxtor Shared Storage Crashed, need new Boot Sector by
IKD
Hi,
My 500GB Maxtor Shared Storage drive died after only 6 months. Maxtor's
solution is to just swap it over. This of course does not recover my data.
Another problem is the data on the disc will be available to be recovered by
other parties.
Instructions I found at...

Raptor or RAID? by
Frodo
I'm currently using a Seagate 300GB SATA-II 7200.9 as my boot drive.
I just picked up a WD Raptor 74GB (WD74ADFD) to replace it as the boot drive
(will use a new install of Win XP Home OEM).
But would it be better(faster) to just get two 160GB SATA-II 7200RPM hard
drives (Seagate, WD or...

ezmiller
Hi,
I recently bought a Hitachi 7K100 7200 RPM HDD for use on my IBM
Thinkpad R51. It's been working without problems, but when I ran a
benchmark test in HD Tune it produced some strange results. It at a
pretty high transfer rate, but periodically it dipped extremely low
(1.0 mb/sec). The...

LVM vs Software RAID by
Wendell III
Hi everyone,
Quick question: Given that it is now possible to have software-based
RAID arrays which are able to be grown using mdadm on Linux, what
advantage, if any, does LVM actually provide?
And yes, I am aware that the filesystem does not grow with mdadm's
--grow command, but tools like...

Decentralized/distributed filesystems questions by

Hi all,
I am looking for a decentralized filesystem solution for non-enterprise
use (lightweight) to replace several rsync-mirrored, software-based
RAID-5 storage servers. I don't know if there's any actual solution out
there which meets my fantasy, but here is some criteria that would be...

External USB Drive Casing Power Overseas by

I want to buy an external USB case for one of my HD's so I can backup
data onto it.
There are a number to choose from, that's no problem, my question is
what happens if I want to use the drive in say Europe where the
voltage is 220/240 not 110...
I don't know how easy it would be to get a...
