Generic PSU Test by
Ed Light
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/534/1
Dissection and testing of a generic 500W PSU.
It turned out to be a 250W PSU with missing protection circuits and very
high electrical noise.
Good reason not to use those for overclocking, or even for anything.

Sudden Power Off by
John Whitworth[_2_]
Hi All,
Possibly a rather long post here, but I'm hoping to capture everything I've
investigated so far.
Basically, my PC has recently begun switching off with no warning
whatsoever. I.e. fine...fine...GONE! To my logic, this spells an issue in
perhaps just one of two places...motherboard or...

Heatsink advice by
[email protected]
Hi,
I am looking for a heatsink for an AMD socket AM2 that is as quiet as
possible (not a watercooler)
Up to 12cm high for my new HTPC under construction.
I found:
- Scythe Mini Ninja CPU Cooler
- Arctic Cooling Freezer 64
Can anyone advise me on a good heatsink?
Thanks

Quad Core CPU's and Abit AW9D-MAX board? by
S. Smith
I have an Abit AW9D-MAX motherboard in my system right now with an
overclocked Core 2 Duo E6600 (running at 3 Ghz). I am considering
getting the Q6600 Quad Core CPU for that board. The Abit specs
*claim* that the Quad Core CPU's work with that board with the latest
BIOS revision (which I have)....

I'm screwed. by
rpgs rock dvds
Can't get the large metal plate off my 8800GT so I can begin to remove
the stock cooler. Problem is all my screwdrivers are crap and won't
engage properly in the tiny screw head so I can turn them and unscrew
the buggers. I've got lots of silly little screwdrivers, but I think
I got most of them...

Budget motherboard to o/c core2 budget cpu ? by
DaveJ
Please can anyone recommend a cheap m/board to o/c intel budget 2 core cpu.
Tried an Asrock but only allowed 33% - I would prefer a mo/bo with onboard
graphics - eg G33 or G31 chipset. TIA - Dave

new benchmark: core-2-core transfer-speed by
Elcaro Nosille[_2_]
It's always said that the single-die technology of AMD's phenon
is superior to Intel's dual-die solution. I wrote a little bench-
mark some time ago that measures the speed of transfers from one
CPU core to another. This benchmark measureed the throughput and
latency of linear and random memory...

Athlon 64 3500+ vs. Athlon 64 X2 3600+ by
John Whitworth[_2_]
My dad is using my old CPU, which is a single-core 3500+. He likes having
numerous anti-spyware, anti-virus and other utilities running, despite my
repeated warnings about them slowing the machine up.
My question, therefore, is will the dual-core 3600+ X2 2GHz processor show
an improvement over...

Question About a Risky BIOs Flashing by
ShadowTek
I have an MS-7093 motherboad that I got with an HP PC. The HP BIOs
version is stripped all to hell, with nothing more left than the
absolute minimum settings.
Would it be possible to install the actual MSI BIOs instead of the HP
version? If I could do that, I could have access to MANY more...

Looking for a small Mid Tower with removable drive cage? by
Bill Stock
Is anyone aware of a small mid tower (16"-17") with a removable 3.5" drive
cage? I'd like something that's easy to work on in a confined space. The
CoolerMaster 330 looks interesting, but the drive cage does not seem to come
out. Cheap (low price) would also be good.
TIA

Need a decent cooler for a stock Athlon 64 3500. by
ShadowTek
I have an Athlon 64 3500 that runs a little warmer that I would like
it to with the stock cooler. The maximum temp range for this model is
listed as 45 to 65 on the AMD website.

My CPU temp used to be in the 40s at idle, but now, after a...
