Beeblebrox
What is the minimum number of members (drives) I need in a raid 0
stripe in order to gain read/write performance advantages?
Some people I've talked to say 3, others say 4. Anyone know the
answer?
thanks.

EMC DMX-III question AS/400 and V5R3M5 by
[email protected]
Technical question:
We have a rather uncommon setup on a number of AS/400 systems
partitions in that they use external SAN disk, not internal spindles.
They work pretty well, and some machines even use a load source
emulator card (ie. NO internal disk at all). 'D' IPLs, DR tests,
system rebuilds...

utility to zero fill slack space by
Patches Forever[_2_]
I thought there was a Norton Utilities program that had the capability to
write zeros on all the unused space on the hard drive. I looked at all the
menu options in Norton DiskEdit and Disk Doctor and I don't see any such
capability.
Can someone tell me do you know if Norton has it anywhere? ...

What Network Appliance products where available back in 1994? by

What Network Appliance products where available back in 1994?
I mentioned the Gear6 solid state storage device and somebody said
they were using comparable equipment back in 1994, an unspecified
model of "Network Appliance", by which I take it they mean the
products made by NetApp.
I suspect they...

EMC SRDF Data Migration Question by
Wennovate
Hi.
Migrating an older symm to DMX, since R1/R2 conversion needs a bin
file change in the old symm, we are using existing SRDF relationship to
migrate data from DMX to old Symm. Now the question is, there are a
few devices that are visible to a HP-UX host that don't have SRDF
relationship (not...

Beeblebrox
I'm using V480s with A1000s as storage using Veritas DB edition,
solaris 8 running oracle.
We're seeing poor IO performance and I'm having trouble pinpointing
the problem. IO looks fine when it's mostly writes, but tanks the
moment reads increase:

Is a "Raid 1" mirrored disk readable on any IDE machine ? by
Toto
I hope my question makes sense (I'm not sure...). I mean, let's suppose
I've got a disk failure on a Raid 1 array of 2 IDE disks, and for any
reason the Raid controler is out. Can I just take the remaining working
drive, and read its data on any normal IDE machine ? Or is it absolutely
necessary to...

I have had a multitude of problems with my superloader L600. I call

Hi folks,
Is anyone here using a UniTrends disk to disk backup solution? I'm
considering implementing the DPU3000 and was hoping to get some general
feedback. I'm currently using Veritas Backup Exec and a HP LTO tape
drive for backups.
The disk to disk solution seems like it would be light years...
