low end graphics card on xps 9000 by skeeter[_6_]
geforce 310, or radeon 5450. pretty low end cards i.m.o. why is dell doing this? is it a limitation of the power supply? motherboard? i would think that with an intel i7 that they would have at least stuck with the ati 4850.

Hi All, I have an old Dimension 8100 that I used as a file server. The HD was new, with a fresh install of XP Home SP3, connected to an UPS with Powechute shutdown for outages, and was working fine for about six months. It just up and died one day. I have opened it up, no lights, no monitor,...

If you were buying new machine... by Andrew Hodgson[_2_]
Hi, Just wondering what people are buying these days - currently using a Dim9200 which works fine on Win7, but want to have a quieter system. I want at least I7 processor with 8GB RAM. Good sound would be nice, not bothered if it uses onboard Intel video. Would like to get solid state storage...

Windows 7 and Laptop questions by MZB
OK, as I've been posting, I am having continuing problems with my Inspiron 2200. So, I will either buy a used computer with XP or just get a new laptop with Windows 7. So, first, about Windows 7. I have a desktop and netbook (and the Inspiron laptop), all running XP HOME. The cable and router...

Customer Number by Wayne Brownlee
No this is not spam or a fake. They claim they can not do anything without a customer number. The person he spoke to said with customer number they cannot help. I was on here the first part of April asking about where the best place to buy a new battery. Pacific Battery was where everybody...

Pacific Battery by Wayne Brownlee
My son ordered a new battery for his Inspiron laptop last month. I checked here and all liked them. He got his credit card statement today and they had charged him for 2 different orders. He needed his customer number. He had thrown it away already. Thus they could not do anything. I just...

inspiron 6000 - which hard drive interface? by yirg.kenya
My wife's 40 GB drive on her Inspiron 6000 is totally full and I want to replace it with a (much) larger one. It's a Toshiba Proteus which looks to have an E-IDE interface. But I'm confused about what type of interface I need since they seem to be categorized on the sites I've looked at as SATA...

comments please by skeeter[_6_]
i'm thinking of going from a xps 630i to studio xps 9000 with the i7 2.66. current xps has dual core 3.1 4 gbt memory with the radeon 4850 with 512 memory and the 9000 comes with 6 gb memory and a radeon 5450 with 1 gb. being that hard drive space is not an issue, is it worth the $ to upgrade?...

This is strange by MZB
Well, I've been posting about problems with my Dell Inspiron 2200. In short, after 6-7 years of no problems, it suddenly started slowing down, freezing, trouble booting, etc. It got so bad that I often had to do cold shutdowns. Anyway, I tried lots of things, to no avail. Last night, I got...

Flash drive to NTFS? by Ron Hardin
Partition Magic on my old Inspiron 1200 doesn't recognize my new on-sale 16gb Kingston USB flash drive, which comes with a FAT32 filesystem. I'd like NTFS so that the file permissions and dates aren't clobbered. Is there something that changes it to NTFS? Or is it for some reason not...

Tried to post this last night but it didn't take. My wife's Studio 1535 would not recover from sleep so I held the power button till it shut down. Then it would not boot. The lights above the keyboard scanned through their normal sequence and the HD light blinked on briefly----then nothing...

Extend Desktop on Inspiron 1100 by Jim[_26_]
I have an Inspiron 1100 vintage 2003 running XP SP3 on which I would like to use the extended desktop feature with a second monitor. After connecting the second monitor, I can display on either monitor or both by using the Fn - F8 toggle, so I know the second monitor is working OK. But following...
