PC refuses to boot by
Grumble
Hello all,
I've been pulling my hair for 3 hours over this problem, so I thought
I'd ask in here, and see if people have had a similar problem.
I have an oldish (bought 08/2001) Socket A motherboard (ASUS A7V133-C).
The chipset fan was starting to whine after collecting dust for 6 months
(since I...

A quick look at Bulldozer thread scheduling by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
It looks like AMD could've saved themselves a lot of embarrassment by
simply making the secondary cores in each module look like an Intel
Hyperthreading thread rather than simply as another full core.

Upgrading my current computer system parts: AMD or Intel? by
Ant[_3_]
Hello.
I am planning to upgrade my computers again since I need to replace my
very old single core Athlon 64 3200 Debian/Linux system (too slow to do
much!) with my current Intel quad-core Q8200 system.
I am trying to figure out if I should get Intel or AMD for my next
upgrade for my old...

Future Intel Xeons to be designed in India by
Yousuf Khan
They are talking about a chip coming out in 2007-2008. It will be designed
in Bangalore India. It's current Pentium-M mobile chip was designed in
Isreal. Start of a new trend for Intel?

Xeon Phi multi-core mania by
[email protected]
I read in a gaming forum the other day that games do not use more than 4
cores because of diminishing returns.
Reminded me when I was in geophysics, and companies starting making clusters
out of Pentium IIIs about 2000. They had a few algorithms that needed
at least 10x the megaflops than the...

NSA and Intel by
Anonymous
Why backdoor just one brand of compiler (since there are several), when you could backdoor the architecture?
I'm pretty sure there is a special sequence of intel instructions which open the unicorn gate, and pipe a copy of all memory writes to NSA's server.

If you're on an Intel machine that you've purchased in the past 2-3
years, that computer almost certainly has an Intel Management Engine.
You might not know what that is, and that's okay. You may also...

DH57dd/core i3 slow boot, slow wake up by

I have a DH57dd, core i3 system running Wxp. It has 4GB RAM and a 1TB disk that is more than 95%
empty. It takes at least 50% longer to boot and to wake from S3 standby than my old 865PERL, P4
2.8GHz system running the same OS. The old one has 2GB Ram and a 500GB disk that is 90% empty.
Is this...

I thought I had read where the tablets Intel was subsidizing were 8
inches and smaller. This article says it was 10 inches and smaller, but
might change that now to 12". Which basically means all tablets (are
there any that are larger?).
I just recently found out that there were 7 or 8" bay...

64-bit or 32-bit: When will it matter? by
aether
Building a computer from scratch. It'll be built for someone who'll use
it for alot of things, but tilted in the 'gaming' direction. Should
whether the processor is 64-bit or 32-bit matter? If not, when? If so,
how so? In other words, should I go AMD or Intel? I understand AMD is
slightly faster...
