SDLT wear & tear (small files vs. big files) by
George Sarlas
Hello... I'm a storage newbie, so please forgive me if this is a
stupid question.
I've got a new StorageTek Library (L40) with an SDLT 320 drive in it.
I am using Veritas NetBackup DataCenter for Windows 2000.
My question has to do with wear and tear on the drive heads. My
previous library (also...

which RAID level for write only? by
Tester A.
I would like to know which raid level is the best for Write operation.
I am considering Raid 0, Raid 1 , Raid 0+1, Raid 10, Raid 3, and Raid 5.
Also, are there any Raid Storage support Raid4, except NetApp?
TIA

Brocade 3900 versus McData Sperion (ES) 3232... by
NYCeyes
Hi:
This is not strictly a Sun/Solaris question, but
many talented people tuned in have good information
to share, so I included the group.
Price aside, given a choice between a Brocade-3900
and a McData Sperion(ES)-3232, which would you go
with and why. To help you answer, know that two of
these...

however, I hope to reduce costs by backing up to my own remote

Replicating a Netware Server by
Faeandar
Sorry for late reply, no news server for a while.
I'm not a Netware admin either so I can't say for certain. I do know
that the NWA's I worked with replicated all remote server data to a
central server and backed that up.

Backing up Samba by
Uwe Weber
Hi all!
We will have to backup a couple of file servers,
located in remote offices. These servers run linux
and serve files to XP Clients using samba.
I am planning to do this with a NetApp NearStore R150
and their SnapVault software. The network from remote
to central offices is weak and their...

SCSI HVD PCI-X controller?? by
Hiroshi
Dear all,
I'm looking for a SCSI controller to use with my IBM Magstar library.
To control my Magstar library you've to use HVD (high voltage differential)
SCSI controller, and not more usual LVD.
A good one is the Adaptec AHA-2944UW (HVD), but it has a normal PCI (33mhz)
connector.
In our server...

I am trying to delete ISL port assignments left over on a Brocade switch we

sgroupDelete command will not work unless you use the force override option.
The problem is that I cannot get the syntax correct. I...

Hi,
I've discovered a serious problem with Legato Networker v6.1.3 under
AIX 4.3.3 and the FC-native connected robotic controller of a STK
L700e to an IBM 6228 FC-Adapter:
Everytime the customer used the import/export slot (cap) during
library moves, Legato Networker reports I/O errors. Due to...

san - shared tapedrives problem by
Wouter Goderis
We have an ATL library with 5 drives spread over 3 bridges.
When we reboot the servers attached to the san, we sometimes loose one
or more tapedrives (not all drives are detected on all servers)
A simple rescan on windows solves this problem ....
but checking if the tapedrives are detected or not...

Backup Tools by
Joerg Ettrich
Hi All,
I'm using selfmade scripts together with afio/cpio to backup about 120GB
on DDS3 tapes (I know that there are better medias to store 120GB on,
but "the management" does not support better equipment). Although
everything works, I'm looking for a tool that enables me to restore
files easier,...
