Is the RAID-5 write penalty really necessary? by
Adam Megacz
No really, I checked the FAQ on this.
I understand the reason for the RAID-5 write penalty. What I don't
understand is this: why not just set the block size to (N-1)*blocksize
(where N is the number of drives in the array and blocksize is the
hardware-level block size).
Since you can only write...

DLT writing by
Adam Smith
I am trying to validate DLT's before they are sent for DVD-Video mastering.
Does anyone know of any tools that will allow two DLT's to be compared at a
very low level? Or alternatively, any tools that will allow me to read the
DLT back into Windows file formats?
Thanks for any help!

S-AIT / Qualstar by
Adam Thomas
Are there any opinions out there about the Qualstar's new S-AIT
library? I'm somewhat surprised there is not more discussion about it
on this list and on the web in general. The 500 GB native capacity was
very appealing for my group, however we're having trouble with bugs in
the firmware for the...

incredibly overloaded disk subsystem by
aDF
per MS, disk queue length values as measured by PerfMon on Win2K should be
very low (1-2), or you're experiencing I/O issues.
well, we have an app powered by an Oracle database that's constantly getting
hammered. We routinely measure queue lengths in the hundreds on up to the
6,000-7,000 range. ...

Changing 2nd Hard Drive from Pata to Sata ? by
[email protected]
I have 2 PATA drives installed but , as the 2nd non-boot drive has
failed , I want to replace it with a SATA drive.
I understand that these drives do not require jumper settings to be
adjusted as they did in the PATA drives .
If I simply install this second SATA drive in its m/b connector ,...

Adrian 'Dagurashibanipal' von Bidder
Hi,
I've got the task of implementing a backup solution upcoming - now the
question is: which tape system? Solutions seem to be either LTO or DLT -
are there others in a similar range (100G or so tape capacity)?
Which drives? The do not seem to be too many differencies between the drive
vendors,...

Hi all,
How can I configure DS4300 (with storage partitions)
to allow a logical drive to be accesible by all hosts in the SAN ?
We are going to use Sanergy with TSM for LAN-free backup purposes.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I'm using a Quantum 40/80 DLT tape drive with hardware compression

server 2k, new server 2k3).
Ever since the drive was installed on the new server the...

Determining WWPN and WWNN of KGPSA HBA on Tru64 box by
[email protected]
I am trying to figure out a way of finding wwpn and wwnn on a Compaq
KGPSA-BC HBA hooked on a Tru64 (V5.1) box.
It seems ( unlike Emulex,JNI and QLogic ) Compaq does not support the
SNIA library, its a shame given the fact that Compaq has been acquired
by HP and HP is a so called member of...

Following some research I've been doing on the matter across
