private movie service by [email protected]
We are going to participate on a private movie services project. Four stations will capture movies simultaneity and they will need 150 GB of disk storage for each station. This amount of data will be edited and selected for archiving. This project will archive 300 GB of video files each day. So we...

Fibre Channel, QLA2200F as networking device by Mark H.
Is it possible to use a fibre channel card such as the QLA2200F for IP? I installed a QLA2200F in a box running Win2k Pro and installed the Qlogic NDIS driver. The device appears as a networking device and installed fine. The link status in Windows reports it as working at 800Mbps. However, the...

Sys: Linux Suse 8.2, KDE 3.1.4 How do I read DD-floppies. It seem that the 720Kb filesystem isn't working on my system. It worked on previous versions of Suse. I need to transfer files from Amiga to my PC, using a DD-floppy (720Kb)formatted with MS-DOS filesystem. My Amiga can do that, but my...

Behavior of RAID system when a drive fails by Rick Kunkel
Hello all, I'm just trying to figure out, generally, what happens when a drive fails in a RAID-5 array. From what I understand, the controller will interpolate the data on the fly from the parity data, and operate in a drives stead. Seems sensible. My big question is how the controller handles...

ADIC Scalar 100 w/ IBM LTO 2 Drives by Patrick
We just bought a new ADIC Scalar 100 with 2 IBM LTO-2 drives. This new library replaces our old Scalar 100 with 2 IBM LTO-1 drives which we will be offloading to an sister company. Not getting anywhere close to the speed of the old library with the new unit. For instance: old library: 400+GB @...

EMC Storage and Windows Server 2000 with SP4 by Kyle J. Beaird
I've talked to some folks that have had some problems with EMC Celerra connectivity after installing SP4 for Windows 2000 Server. Evidently, they had to uninstall the SP in order to regain functionality. I am aware of some other issues with SP4, but this was a new one - and not one I had seen...

Plastic disk storage by Donald Kersey
Has anyone read the article on the new hard disk storage media being tested, plastic. Like the old punch cards, data is stored on plastic disks by making indentions and then erased by heating plastic up to remove the indention. The storage per inch is 5 times that of magnetic hard disks.

EMC SAN Question... by Michael
We have a few CX400s and EMC Fibre Switches at a datacenter. My boss is in charge of the SAN configuration and he really does a poor job of it. I'm looking to give him some help, but he doesn't really let anyone else touch the SAN except himself (which is hilarious, believe me). What I want to...
