Asus A8V Drive Controllers by
Sideshow Bob[_2_]
Asus A8V. 2 weeks ago Windows locked up and upon reboot it couldn't find any
hard drives. I purchased a Promise SATA II 300 PCI Drive Controller and
installed it. When attempting to boot it says it cannot find the Promise
Controller BIOS. I'm stumped. What should I try next?

I had four partitions in the salve, but now all the partitions are
deleted automatically
and i have lost all my data. Drive is deducted and it shows 10GB as
unallocated space.
I guess it could be due to virus.
I downloaded centain...

External Backup Drive Suggestions? by
Bob[_12_]
I'm looking for an inexpensive external drive that I can use for automatic
backups and also to sync files from my desktop to laptop. Several drives
seem to be able to do this from their ads, but I have XP on my desktop and
Vista on my laptop. Does this complicate things? Anyone had any good...

Mixing IDE & SATA by
James Colbert
I have an NEO2 plat (MS-7025, bios 1.B) that has an IDE boot drive. Can I
use a SATA
drive (500GB) as a secondary without issue? Would I need to place it on the
SATA2 connector to avoid boot issues? Any information and/or warnings
appreciated.
Thanks,
James

De-striping a RAID 0 setup ? by
-RS-
I have a home computer with two 300gB HDD's set up as a RAID 0 / striped
configuration. I set it up that way as an experiment when I built the system
6 months ago. I kind of forgot that it was an experiment and left it as
RAID 0 and gradually more programs and data were installed / added.
I...

matched drives needed for Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATALink ? by
-RS-
I have a Intel D845PEBT2 mobo with the on-board SATA mentioned in the
subject line.
One of the 2 year old Seagate Baracuda 200Gb SATA HDDs is reported as
"dropped" by the Silicon Image BIOS/setup.
I have been told that the only way to safely keep from losing data is to
swap in a fresh HDD for...

1.8" to 2.5" IDE HDD adapter by
galapogos
Hi,
I'm wondering if such adapters exist, that takes a 1.8" IDE HDD from
ultraportables/ipods, and converts them to a 2.5" form factor. I've
seen bare adapter PCBs, but I'm not sure if the entire PCB adapter +
1.8" HDD will fit within a 2.5" form factor, and plug into a regular
laptop...if such...

I have a sitecom wireless router (WL-018). I have purchased a netdisk

With a direct ethernet cable connection all is fine. However, when attached

SATA HDD but IDE motherboard by

I have a Samsung Spindrive SP2504C 250Gb to connect to a motherboard
that normally accepts IDE hard-drives.
What would be the best product to do the conversion from SATA to IDE?

Users of Win98se & IDE drives, better disable 2 functions* for SCSI, by
TE Chea
in os's device manager, to get e.g. 5.5-7.6 % more speed (
cached & uncached per WinTune 98 ) on SiS 530 & ata33, or
2.1-24.1 % on VIA kt266a & ata133. My LG dvd drive's score
in BCM diagnostic rose fr 36 to 37x, only now can PowerDvd
fast forward play smoothly @32x.
Win95 does not enable these 2 *...

Reading PCMCIA cards while connected in a different system by
Wim Godden
I'm looking for a way to read data from a PCMCIA PC SRAM card while
it's in a device.
This might sound extremely weird, but basically, the device writes
data to the card, but we'd like to read it without using the device's
protocol.
Is there any way to do this ? Or can we replicate the writes to...

Will platters from a 400GB HD work on a 300GB HD? by

I accidentally dropped my 400GB Seagate external PATA drive while it
was running. Needless to say, it no longer works (I dont even think I
hear it spinning). Anyways, could I recover the data by removing the
3 platters from this drive and installing it onto another Seagate
drive (it shows the...
