3.06 @ 533 or 3.00 @ 800 by
istman
Hello all... I currently have an ASUS P4PE MB with a P4 2.53Gz at
533FSB. The motherboard supports HT but not 800 FSB. There has been
a price drop on the 3.06/533 which has made it affordable for me.
Since my MB already supports it I thought it to be the logical
solution. But, would there be a...

M or 4 for laptop? by
This Old Man
I got a new Dell D800 with the Pentium M 1.6 and I'm not that impressed with
the speed. I wouldn't be traveling with it too much (I have a little Sony
Vaio for that) so I'm wondering if I should go instead with a Pentium 4 at
3.0 and suffer the weight penalty.
I'm being told the 1.6 M is barely...

Anyone running W2K with HT enabled ? by
Jim MacLaurin
Is anyone running Windows 2000 on an Intel HT chipset/CPU capable mobo with
HT enabled? If so, any caveats that I should be aware of (besides the fact
that W2K doesn't use HT effectively, if at all)?
The reason for my question is that I contemplate getting an Intel HT
CPU/mobo replacing my current...

CPU Temperature higher with Hyperthreading Disabled ! by
Paul Rubin
Hi all,
I recently had to disable Hyperthreading on my P4-3GHz machine with a
Giga-Byte 8KNXP motherboard, because an application I'm using doesn't
run properly with Hyperthreading on. However when I disable
hyperthreading, my CPU temperature rises about 12 degrees C (this is
with NO programs...

Prescott cpu on the market by
Richard
Hi,
I have read a while ago that Prescott cpu would be available on
December 3. It is in less than a month but there is no news about it
anymore. Does somebody know something about it? I also heard a while ago
that the cpu release may be delayed but it would surprise me because it
would not be...

Pre Production D865GBF: BIOS locked? by
zzz!
I have such a MoBo, it works great with a P4 2.8.
There is only a problem, I cannot have the BIOS flashed, either by the
Express Utility (I have a System Error message )or by the
old-fashioned DOS procedure (it starts fine, gives final confirmation,
but does nothing).
Tried both the P10 and the...

AMD vs Intel in stability test by
nardia
I've had many problems in the past with computers that have used AMD
processors. Granted, this hasn't always been totally AMD's fault. (I've
bought duff motherboards too). So forgetting speed for a moment... are Intel
chips any more stable than AMD? What motherboard would you recommend for a
intel...

Upgrading a HP Pavilion with a new motherboard & faster CPU? by
Arnold Wolfcastle
I have a machine that runs a process with 16-bit MSFT Access database
on a HP Pavilion about a 500 MHz PII. The HP has a decent size case.
I know I should dump the machine but reinstalling the Access 16-bit
drivers is a pain.
Any chance if dropping in a new quality motherboard & faster CPU? ...

A question about IA-32 TLB by
Chuck Song
It's said that IA-32 uses the TLB to translate linear address to
physical address. Who can tell me when a TLB misses, where should
the hardware state machine to find the page directory and page tables,
in the level 1 data cache or access the main memory directly ?
Can you tell me which document has...

For the longest time Intel was the world's largest flashram producer,
followed by the Fujitsu & AMD joint venture. Now it looks like Samsung and
Toshiba have bypassed both groups and are now #1 & #2.

motherboard with 4 ATA by

Anyone knows of any good latest motherboard that has 4 ATA ports. I am
thinking of building a computer based on P4 2.8 GHz 800 with HT. All
motherboards that I come across seems to have either all serial ATA or 2 ATA
two SATA.
Preferably the brands will have to be of the following. Intel,...

"Year of Itanium" by
Yousuf Khan
Ottellini figures that Intel will have sold 100,000 Itaniums by year end.
That doesn't seem to jive with most estimates, but regardless that's what
Intel claims it will sell:
