Fan Isolators (non-vibrating fan mounts) by
Adrian
Just wanted to post something in here, to let people know where they can buy
fan isolators from. I found them by accident. Their goal is to stop
vibration from the fan to the metal case of your PC. Anyway, good luck.

where to get 1GB CAS2 2-2-2 1T timing? by
Adrian
If you're putting in that much memory, ECC memory should be considered
and skip the CAS latency. Although if it's a gaming machine with a
lot of memory, then you could skip it. Personally, I wouldn't skip
it.

Sleeve bearing fans by
Adrian
Do sleeve bearing fans have that much of a shorter life compared to
ball bearing fans? I'm referring to case fans. I like the low dBa's
of the Papst fans, but I found out they are sleeve bearing, which I
believe doesn't last as long as single or double ball bearing
equivalents.

PSU guide? by
Adrian
Yes, I seen that one, but after going through their fairly simplified
wizard, it recommended a 300watt PSU for my system. One of my
machines I need the PSU for has a 2.8GHz P4, 2GBs of ECC RAM, two
120GB HDDs, a CD/DVD burner, ATI video card (needing power via a
floppy cable), Audigy sound card, a...

PCLINCS.CO.UK - BEWARE ! by
Adrian
Looking at their return policy:
http://www.pclincs.co.uk/Returns.htm
I see they charge that ridiculous 15% restocking. To make it worse,
they charge 8 pounds to test a product that the customer says is
faulty, if it tests OK! Plus you have to pay them to ship it back to
you! Fees, fees and...

Device failure (on XP Pro) by
Adrian
On my system here, I double clicked to play a movie and the mouse
pointer suddenly reverted back to its default, then the entire display
froze. Not even the mouse would move. Then after a few seconds, the
screen went black and came back stating there had been a device
failure. Thing is, I was...

Turning fans and uv light off electronically?? by
Adrian
Hi every one,
At the moment when I want my case fan and UV cathode light off I have to
reach down to my case and flick a manual switch.
Is there some product or way to be able to turn these off and on
electronically through software on my computer that talks to some PCI card
or card with a serial...

Problem with 1GB DDR Memory by
Adrian
Hi there,
I'm having a problem with my computer at the moment - when I built it, I put
in 1GB of Corsair PC3200 DDR memory. However, I have recently been having
problems with totally random lockups.
Anyway, what I have found out, is that with the full 1GB of ram installed, I
get these lockups,...

Defrag on a RAID 0 drive? by
Adrian
Does defragging a drive, which actually is a RAID 0 setup consisting
of two HDDs, work? I defragged last week my RAID 0 drive and
basically things got ugly after that - Windows files corrupted, BIOS
changed, etc.

Intel 875PBZ BIOS freeze by
Adrian
When plugging in a fan to the Rear Chassis Fan connector, and trying to
access the "Hardware Monitoring" section in the BIOS, it results in a
freeze. If I switch off the PC, unplug the fan, then go back into the BIOS
and go back to Hardware Monitoring, it works and shows me fan speeds, etc.

USB External 56K modem, comments? by
Adrian
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/Spec1/1328812.html
Anyone got any opinions about this modem? I suppose the key attraction is
that it's USB host powered, so no power supply or serial cable to worry
about.
Do USB 56K modems work just as good as a regular 56K modem with serial
cable? I've not got any...

specs. and ask a few questions regarding fan selection, out of the

Anyone use this combination of Board/RAM? I have the Corsair XMS series RAM
and am considering switching to ECC for stability rather than absolute
speed.

Link to P4 Hyperthreading patch for XP by
Adrian
Oh, you mean this? I didn't even know there was a problem!
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;815227
Why on earth don't they let people download it? If it's performance
related, I would think it would be publically available for anyone to
download.

Antec Sonota - Trouble to hook up hard drives? by
Adrian
It's quite easy to hook up the hard-drives. Yes, they are roated so the
ends sit across the way. All you do is take out each drive rack, screw the
drive in using the provided screws, then slide the drive, in its rack, into
the case. It's your choice whether you put the power plug end towards...

RAID 1 on 875PBZ? by
Adrian
Heh, thanks for the link. The IAAR v3.5 runs in parallel to the BIOS
which supports it. Apparently, Intel said it does support RAID 1, but
the drivers and BIOS aren't released yet. In fact, they released IAAR
v3.5 *before* the appropriate BIOS update. That version of the IAAR
relies on features...

Putting 40 gig hard drive into a 1996 PC by
Adrian C
Dureing the weekend, I installed a 40gb Seagate hard drive into
friend's old computer. The date of the BIOS was 1996.
As I was running Fdisk after installing the drive, the program told
me that the BIOS could be configured to recognise the "new large hard
drives bigger than 2gb" and did I want...
