Which fan connector? by Percival P. Cassidy
I have an Asus Prime Z370-A motherboard that has several different fan connectors, but only two for "Chassis fans." I have the top and rear fans connected to CHA_1 and CHA_2, respectively, but I am wondering whether to connect my two (non-PWM) front mounted drive-bay fans to one of the other...

Patriot Pison/SLCTLC by Flasherly[_2_]
256G SSD Blaze There is also a non-Blaze version, exclusively labeled for Amazon marketing. Patriot is still among names among memory types, so it's also got the $50-80 premium on this type of middle-grade TLC SSD. Without saying, Patriot has presence for honoring the warranty (3 years). I've...

LAN question, can I "merge" 2 separate LANs? by Charlie Hoffpauir
My home system now accesses the internet via Hughesnet. I have the Hughesnet router with an ethernet connection to my ASUS RT-AC66U router. From there I am CAT5A wired to computers and TVs via wires from both the ASUS and a 8 port Netgear switch (GS208). I have a few handheld devices (phones,...

Kaspersky saves the day by John B. Smith
Last night, Saturday, I went to shut off my head phones and heard a voice coming thru: "We're microsoft your computer is ****ed. If you attempt to turn it off without calling us we'll **** it up worse". I'd already shut my browser down but I found a 'firefox' still in the Processes of TaskManager....

TOSLINK 96/24 adpator Pwr by Flasherly[_2_]
USB Wall Fast Charger Power Car Adapter AC Home US/EUPlug 5V 3.1A 3 Ports First I bought, I was mistaken. It wasn't exactly $1US, but marked up 300% by American middle/jobber warehouses. This time I got it direct from Asia. I'll wait for the delivery if, regardless how cheap, they blow up...

will we see 2.5/5 Gbps ethernet?? by [email protected]
Seems to me to be a real need for this. If you're pulling data off an NAS at 1 Gbps, that is lukewarm green disk speed. But 10 Gbps is pushing **** uphill over old cables. If 2.5GBASE-T hardware were readily available, I would start upgrading my rigs.

USB Power Surges and Kills It by Flasherly[_2_]
Bought a 115V to USB Adaptor. I don't believe I've even got a year usage out of it. Had a power outage and an external processor, serving for SPDIF red-laser audio to analogue conversion, would not power back up. (I like it for when mixing processed signals for it's part as an oversamped...

Is Class 1 laser safe enough for baby eyes? by Mr. Man-wai Chang
I meant, what if someone accidentally shine Class 1 laser into a baby's eyes? Would it hurt retina and leave a permanent damage? I know ... I know... it should NOT happen. I'm thinking about buying a USB 3.0 external hub for my pc. I'm looking for one that has about an 18 to 20 inch cable length and will use the older 3.0 USB connectors (Type A ???). Are there any hubs being made that fit those conditions? Who is making them? The ones I saw at newegg look to have...

Power Button Problems by [email protected]
I have an Optiplex 360 that I cannot turn on because of a faulty power button. I have no idea how to repair this since I cannot get to the power button, which is sandwiched in between the plastic case and a metal cage. There is a small circuit board which a 20 pin cable(XT029) is attached to and...

Greased Pigs by Flasherly[_2_]
https://renewablelube.com/ Mine's front and centre, 3rd from left, in the white container. Commercial grade, or otherwise something that wouldn't be commonly found. High-temperature breakdown rating, at the time I bought for a rotisserie oven in mind, or consequently food safe. Interesting...

Microscopically Matching Braided USB [Keyboard] Cable by Flasherly[_2_]
After repeated key failures, repeated instances of disassembling the keyboard to individually fix them, this has inevitably turned into a jOb perspective. But I've also a workable Chinese soldering station, fine-tipped and adjustable to 25- or 40-watt. I therefore KNOW, now, that this little...

Chinese Pulley: $2/US Stainless steel. Fixed centre shaft. Single pulley wheel rides directly on shaft, e.g. no intermediary ball bearings. M2 (? Chinese) rating: Guesstimate a working load around 100lb. max for practical eyeballing (at the pulley) - probably advertised for twice or more that,...
