lm-sensors not picking up fan speeds by Haines Brown
I've installed debian Wheezy on new hardware. The case fans are Noctua NF-R8 PWM and the CPU cooler is Cooler Master Hyper EVO 212. The motherboard is Gigabyte H97-D3H. Operating system is Debian Wheezy. In BIOS I see that CPU fan speed is 1123 rpm, case fan 1 is 1048 rpm, fan 2 is 1117 rpm. I do...

driver for Creative X-Fi won't compile by Haines Brown
On a new machine I installed a SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium card. I also did # modprobe snd-ctxfi, and # lsmod | grep ctxfi shows: snd_ctxfi 0 using it are sound_pcm, dec_hdmi, sound_page_alloc, snd. Dmesg has line: "snd_ctxfi ... setting latency timer to 64" But no reference to the Crative...

Samsung S23C350H defective? by Haines Brown[_2_]
I try to connect a new Samsung S23C350H display via a Mac HDMI adapter cable to a MacBookAir notebook. I previously had this notebook connected without problems via a DVI adapter to a different model Samsung display. All I see on this display after it checks for Analog/HDMI connections is "Check...

Installing Debian on Thinkpad X250 (UEFI) by Haines Brown[_2_]
I am installing Debian Jessie from netinst on a USB key. I went to BIOS and made the key first boot priority, but made a BIG mistake and failed to disable UEFI Secure boot (UEFI is new to me). As the result, when I now power the machine on, I can only do one thing, which is to register with...

Disabling trackpad on Thinkpad x250 by Haines Brown[_2_]
I need to disable trackpad on a Thinkpad x250. Fn+F8 does not bring up a menu for disabling. Perhaps Debian Sid does not support that function. I disabled the trackpad in BIOS, but that had no effect. This I don't understand.

Symptoms of dying CD drive? by Haines Brown[_2_]
I have one of the popular ASUS 24X RW CD drives that has probably died. I'll replace it when I can afford to bring my machine down, but meanwhile I would appreciate knowing the typical symptoms of a CD drive mechanical failure and what troubleshooting procedures would detect a mechanically failing...
