STK D380 vs. HP EVA 8000? by
Marv
Hello,
I've just begun a head to head comparison with SUN/STK's D380
(Engenio/LSI) and HP's EVA 8000 mid range disk arrays, each with 10TB
of raw disk (146gb 10k rpm 2gb FC disks) in a Solaris 8-10, Redhat
Linux ES 3, and Win2k SAN environment.
I would very much appreciate any feedback,...

IBM DS4300 and 64-bit Windows (EM64T) by
Richard
Good day, all.
I'm curious if anyone out there has any experience, positive or negative,
in trying to connect an IBM DS4300 (Turbo) with two multi-pathed
connections to a single host (IBM X346) running Windows Server 2003 SP1 R2
64-bit (EM64T, not Itanium).
I saw a similar question posted here...

tape header ID by
2hawks
Hi,
I wanted to throw this out there. I am trying to identify what created
some tapes I have.
These are 1024 byte blocked. The first two blocks contain "IDH2" in
the first four bytes of each block respectively. Then two (yes two)
tape marks then data.
Probably a netware server, early 90's...

ACSLS Missing volume by
[email protected]
Has anyone encountered a 'missing' volume in their library?
I have an L5500 and ACSLS 7.1. Somehow a tape ended up outside the
library and is now listed as 'missing' when I query the volume in
cmd_proc.
When I try to inject the tape, it gets scanned (cap set to automatic),
and then the cap gets...

At what point is ILM needed? by
[email protected]
Hi,
I am trying to figure out at what point I should be looking into some
sort of ILM technology. In reading vendor case studies such as
(http://www.netapp.com/library/cs/mustang.pdf), I dont see why I cant
just keep adding more disks to my primary storage right now as demand
increases... when...

alternatives to EMC DiskXtender by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I am new to ILM & HSM. Right now I am looking for a archival solution.
Looking thru EMC's website, Centera CAS & DiskXtender caught my eyes.
Although one is hardware and the other is software, it seems that the
roles of Centera CAS & DiskXtender overlapped. Both seems to have...

Will a restore of /opt/tivoli be sufficient to comepletely recover the
TSM installation once the new OS is in place or are there other files I
need?
Is there a preferred way of doing manouvres like this one?

I recently acquired a 3580-L3H whose firmware appears old but when I
try to update I get a weird error.
I'm using their ITDT.EXE and jump thru all the hoops but when I get
to the part where it actually does the update it reports FAILED and in
another box it declares UNEXPECTED DATA. The version...

Xiotech v. GFS -- experience? independent comparison? by

Hi,
I am total clueless newbie in the huge data storage issues, but I was asked
by the guy who I am working for (don't ask, it's a long story) to analyze
differences between Xiotech SAN (which they use now) with possibility to
switch to RedHat GFS. The storage would be used for a large...

Website to show WWN vendor by

Hello all,
I used to know of a good website where you could plug in the WWNN and
it would come back and tell you the vendor information.
I can't find it anymore. Does anyone know of this site or a similar

Thanks.

Old DLT CleaningTape III's by
Jim Seymour
Cleaning out the "loft" today, came across three brand-new, never-
been-used Quantum DLT CleaningTape III's. These things are probably
7 years old if they're a day. And that loft area is un-conditioned,
so the temperature and humidity have been all over the map.
If they were data tapes, no way...
