Sebastian Schoenwetter
Hi Guys,
I was wondering if any of you guys are using JNI FC6460 adapters on
Solaris connected to HP XP 512 or HDS storage devices. Preferable
using Brocade 2800 / 3800 fabric switches and Veritax VxVM and DMP.
We have a long history of trouble with JNI cards and would like to

General [Integrated] SATA & RAID Query by
Ron
Greetings. Having found no existing threads on this issue...
I understand RAID. I have used several arrays over the last few years; on
PCI and integrated. When I built this system, I began with a single SATA
drive, but I've since added a second identical drive and mirrored them.
(Would've...

Hi all,
I would like to know a basic thing concerning the Backup and Restore
client of Legato Networker. If I have an application (solaris pkg
archive) that I install, should I indicate the B&R client to backup
the .tar archive and the customized configuration file, or should I
indicate all the...

Netapp factory settings by
Paul
For the life of me, I can't remember what the command is to revert a netapp
filer to factory settings. I think it's a diag level (priv set diag)
command.
Anyone here know?
TIA,

Looking for NetApps Engineer by

Which storage conference to attend by
Charles Morrall
I've been given approval by my manager to attend one conference of my
chosing. I don't really want to attend any free or low-cost conferences if
that means being forced to listen to drivel from various vendors while they
wallow in their own percieved greatness. I of course expect some...

are SDLT tapes flaky? 4 of 10 of our tapes are defective by
Erick
I have a Quantum SDLT320 drive on a linux host for which we've bought: 5
Quantum SDLT-I tapes and 5 HP SDLT-I tapes. I am alarmed that two of each
brand are defective.
Symptoms are twofold:
1 tape took tar files up to (I presume) capacity without error, but "tar
tvf" of those files failed.
3 tapes...

Rules of the Road for Fibre Channel Interop by

Being relatively new to fibre channel, I need to gain more awareness of what
works and what to expect. Maybe some gurus here on usenet can help. I
discovered that my Sun X6730A (FC100/S) card will not correctly communicate
with a Clariion FC5700 DPER. I don't understand why. Doesn't everyone...

NEXSAN ATABOY vs Promise Ulta by
ron
I'm in the market for about 2TB of direct attached storage. The
storage will be used for back-up only. The plan is to back-up to
disk, then to tape.
I am not interested in enterprise class solutions and the data is not
mission critical. I am looking at 2 products:
Nexsan ATA Boy

Learning about DLT Drives by
Carl Farrington
I want to learn about DLT internals. I have some DLT7000s (broken) floating
about and I really like this mechanical stuff :-) I've replaced the Leader
tape on one, but it doesn't keep the tape tensioned properly so it ends up
slipping off the rollers and becoming kind of chewed.
Where can I learn...

External disk drives and portability by
David Arnstein
I'm planning to use external disk drives for backup. I'm looking at
the nicely packaged enclosures from Maxtor, Western Digital, and Seagate.
I keep one set of backups "offsite," and this is giving me a bit of a
worry. Roughly once a month, I hand-carry backup media from my PC to
the "offsite"...
