Advice on new D865GVHZ Mboard by Puddin' Man
Hi, I've recently built a new pc around a D865GVHZ Mboard. Loaded all the relevant drivers from the CD, am now comtemplating updates and configuration. If anyone has been running this board for a while, I could use some general advice, i.e. bios, video updates, video mode, maybe DDR mem config.

ProSet and PCI NIC's by probcdc
Trying to create a NIC team using the Intel ProSet for Wired Connection utility, or whatever it is! All NIC's show up at the main screen but when you right click on any of them you do not have the option of selecting add/create team. Server has 4 NIC's. 2 integrated, 2 PCI. Can you not team...

Speaker connection on D865GVHZ board by Puddin' Man
Hi, I am in the process of building a pc around an Intel D865GVHZ motherboard. First system I've built in 6 years. The Antec case has a standard 4-element 2-wire connector for the speaker. The doc for the board show a little round thingness on the board as "speaker", but it looks like an audio...

intel core 2 roadmap for this year?? by Boe
Hello, I see they are probably releasing the core2 chips July 23rd. I saw they were probably releasing a 3.2 GHz chip later this year but it sounded like it would be an extreme (AKA extremely expensive) CPU later this year. Are there any faster standard (non extreme) CPUs coming out this year...

Will all Core 2 chips allow for quad processing? by Boe
I am planning on building a new system soon. I've seen mention of having 2 dual core chips from AMD and Intel effectively giving you quad processing. I haven't seen any info on if the first release chips from either company support this with a new motherboard chipset or if a totally different CPU...

955XCS bios update 2036 by Tony Linguini
I was previously running 2022, and after this update I can hear myself think. That is, I didn't realize how much the fan tach must have been off. The fan now is much quieter (slower) and the temps still stay at a reasonable level. fwiw

MB D845GBV - Integrated Drivers by [email protected]
Hi. I installed XP Pro on a friend's PC with MB D845GBV. All XP updates are loaded. Device Manager has the yellow warning icon for "Ethernet Controller" and "Multimedia Audio Controller", both on the MB. Here... http://tinyurl.com/lh2lp .... are Intel's download offerings for this MB. Is...

Dell, Intel's "whore" losing loyalty battle by Rich
But Canada's version of Dell, MDG is still an Intel-only whore. I guess despite court cases pending, the bribes are still flowing? http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=32039 EARLIER IN THE year, AMD had already got its foot partially in Dell's door when the Texas-based company acquired Alienware,...

Best cooler? by Neil Barras
Hi all, I need a recommendation on a CPU cooler for my Intel 930. I have the stock on currently, and when I'm gaming or doing some CPU intensive work, the fan maxes out at 4300RPM, causing rather a lot of noise. Temperatures when the fan is at full a MoBo: 42C CPU: 44C Case: 26C

Intel getting ready to layoff 16,000 employees? by bbbl67
A lot of communications groups likely to go. Even talk of Viiv getting canned. And of course they're not sure what to do with Itanium. If they get rid of Itanium, they'll **** off HP, but I somehow think HP may not mind too much, it is one of the biggest Opteron resellers. Intel to lay off 16,000...

Any Nero Vision speed comparisons? by Boe
Hello, Tom's hardware is often helpful for CPU comparisons but one of the tools I use most often to convert AVI or MPG to DVD is Nero Vision. I haven't seen any AMD vs. Intel comparisons for this. Since this is probably about the most CPU intensive thing I do, an actual lab comparison would be...

MB mounting holes by cew
Is it true that all MB mounting holes that have a silver ring around them are grounded, and thus should be attached using brass, conducting standoffs and metal screws? Thanks.

Quesiton about PCI EXPRESS?? by Nobody
What does it mean when motherboards say "1 PCI-Express X16 (2 X8 lanes)? Now I thought PCI-Express graphics cards were X16. But these motherboards make it sound like they have 2 X8 slots. Can I use a single video card in these setups? Would a single video card have the full X16 bandwidth or...

Socket F Opteron coming July 11; Core 2 Duo "Conroe" July 23 by Yousuf Khan
There will be no more single-core Opterons available anymore after the switchover to Socket F (1207-pin LGA). There will be massive price cuts on Pentium 4-based products prior to Conroe introduction, such as the Pentium D. One story had a low-end version of Pentium D for as low as...
