Large hard drive support on D865PERL by
Arsene Lupin
Should an Intel D865PERL motherboard running Win2K+SP4 be capable of
controlling 160 GB hard drives natively (without using an add-on
controller card)?. Mine only sees first first 128 GBs.
Any help would be appreciated.

Help needed -- D875PBZ burn-out? by
Thomas K Liu
I am on my second D875PBZ board. The first board had problems from
the start. This second board was ok for a good 2 months. The only
significant change was updating to the P.15 BIOS.
Here's the problem. On boot, I get a lot of lines on the screen. The
boot takes longer than usual. Is the...

Different numerical behaviour on i86 vs other CPUs by
Matthieu Dazy
Hi,
I recently came across a problem with computations involving float operand
and a double result.
On the test code below, i86 CPUs have a consistent behaviour OS- and
compiler-wise (tested on Linux + gcc 3.2 and Windows + VS6), and other CPU
types (Sparc, MIPS and Intel ia64) exhibit different...

D865PERL and slow dual-channel memory by
Beemer Biker
I recently put together two systems. The first was an ASUS A7N8X DLX and I
bought a matched pair of corsair xms DDR-400 memory. That worked o.k. and I
ordered the same type of memory for the 865PERL mombo. I cannot seem to get
it to be recognized as anything other than DDR-266. With a 2.4...

Athlon XP on Socket 754? by
Yousuf Khan
Looks like AMD getting geared up to make its Socket 754 its primary
platform, for both 32-bit and 64-bit chips.
http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20030821060723.html
They're talking about a version of the Athlon XP (i.e. 32-bit Athlon)
which fits on the Socket 754, codenamed Paris and...

D875PBZ from NF7-S by
neon
I picked up this board last week. I had serious corruption issues (couldn't
even get XP to load) with a Raid-0 setup with a pair of 120 gig WD SATA
drives. I ended up flashing the bios to P09 from P05 and lowering the
memory timings from 2-2-2 to 2-3-2. Problems disappeared, XP loaded in
record...

D845HV Based System Running Slowly by

I have picked up a 2nd hand PC from a friend (a "Tiny" PC) that
utilises an Intel D845HV motherboard. Everything appears OK with it.
It POST's OK, detects H/D and memory correctly etc. However, I am

The terminal solution to unchecked buffers by
Michael Tippach
Having been hit by the w32.blaster myself, I was thinking why do the
main IA32 vendors not put an end to this.
How?
Provide some (sticky) bit in some MSR to disable this expletive
JMP ESP instruction. Make it generate an #UD exception instead, so
the OS could actually spot an attack right when...

RAID 1 on 875PBZ? by
Adrian
Heh, thanks for the link. The IAAR v3.5 runs in parallel to the BIOS
which supports it. Apparently, Intel said it does support RAID 1, but
the drivers and BIOS aren't released yet. In fact, they released IAAR
v3.5 *before* the appropriate BIOS update. That version of the IAAR
relies on features...

Hyperthreading CPU and Win2K... by
Craig
Does anyone know if Win2K would benefit from Intel's new "hyperthreading"
technology? I would have thought that you would need a kernel that would
support it and Win2K would not be aware if it.
Regards
Craig

a couple of P-4 questions by
i'm_tired
First, hyperthreading. I recently read in a PC mag and on a laptop makers
website that Hyperthreading only works for WindowsXP. I somehow doubt the
truth of that. Isn't Windows2000 able to handle hyperthreading? (and are
there not some flavors of linux/unix able to as well?)
And, I'm wondering...
