PC 4GB RAM limit by
Tim Anderson
The cheaper motherboards (ie. most of them) for P4 or Athlon 64 support a
maximum of 4GB RAM, even if the motherboards and processors support the
AMD64 extensions that can address sqillions of GB. On the other hand, more
upmarket boards support more RAM - up to 24GB or maybe more - for Xeon...

Why Pentium? by
Talal Itani
Hello,
I am in the market for a good computer, with a dual-core CPU. I keep
reading that Athlon is better than Pentium, Athlon is faster than Pentium,
and Athlon is lower priced than Pentium. But if that is the case, why do
most businesses have Pentium based PCs and not Athlon based PCs?...

Capacitors in PSU are dangerous? by
Ken Reynolds
Some switched mode power supplies start by rectifying the mains voltage to
350+volts dc and storing this on a capacitor. That is enough to kill you in
certain circumstances. All capacitors from main powered equipment should be
treated with respect.

Economics of SATA hard drive by

Will upgrade the system when I need the extra power. Currently need to

Observations on a UPS - follow up to a previous post by
Doc[_2_]
Recently I asked about suggestions regarding a UPS. I ended up
getting an 875 VA 525 Watt "Geek Squad" model from Best Buy - yeah,
yeah, everyone says Geek Squad stuff is overhyped junk, but at $69 on
sale, the price seemed right.
It seems to handle my 2 computers fine - a PIV 2.4 gig and a PIII...

What inkjet printer prints the best text? by

Most of my printing involves documents and legal briefs. There is some
color printing for brochures and stuff I find on the Internet. Can
someone recommend a color ink jet that prints laser-like text and is
reasonably fast.
Thanks in advance,

PII vs PIII by
Gregory L. Hansen
It looks like the machine I have (an HP Kayak XAS, you may have seen me
mention it already) can be upgraded from a PII 400MHz to dual PIII 600MHz.
But the PIII's are substantially more expensive than the PII's, around $70
each compared to $10 each.
I guess I'm not that excited about a 50% increase...
