Northword vs Prescott by Alan Walpool
Hi, Why does the northwood cost more than the prescott for the same speed chip? I thought the northwood would be cheaper since this is the older slower chip. Whatever. Just curious why a older chip costs more than the newer chip. Thanks,

Descriptor tables and memory usage by Alex
I'm working on a Pentium emulator in C/C++. In an effort to improve the efficiency of emulated memory, I'm trying to decide when I can treat a block of memory as 'deleteable'. Are there any circumstances where an area of memory is not included in any of the descriptors in the GDT or LDT and yet...

P4EE - will it be plugin replaceable? by Alex Johnson
At this point I am 100% certain my computer supports 3.2GHz P4 (base model). I was planning on upgrading to that level next year. I am uncertain if it supports Prescott (with all the wackiness of intel releasing specs to the OEMs and then changing them). This makes P4EE a viable upgrade path for...

Dell Dimension standards question by Alex Johnson
I'm buying a new computer. It's not my first choice, but Dell has been selected due to a "gift card" I'd rather not waste. But Dell is hugely overpriced. I'd like to know if the Dimension 8300 conforms to most standards...or is it proprietary in some important way? My past experience with...

Abit IS7 Standby Problem (CPU Errors) by AlexPi
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me with this problem. I have an ABIT IS7 motherboard with an Intel P4 2.8c processor. Whenever I try to come out of Standby the computer reboots. On the S3 (powered down) standby mode there is no sign of what is causing this reboot, but on S1, right after moving the...
