PC Shutdown by
Roger Charette
shut down the PC and was gone for a week. On return it booted up and ran for about 4 minutes and shut down. if I let it sit for awhile and unplug it and replug it it will start and run for a while and shut down again. Could it be a bad power supply?

Necessity of Partitioning with NTFS by
Damaeus
I've always partitioned hard drives because I've heard it's best to do that
due to performance increases. So I tried to have a Windows and Program
Files partition, a data partition, a misc partition, MP3 partition, game
partition, and a partition for my local POP3/NNTP server. The...

Evercool WC-202 Ultra by
No One
The manual that comes with this has a diagram showing the flow for use
with the GPU and the CPU. The water is to flow from the main cooler to
the GPU then to the CPU then to the secondary radiator then to the main.
This seems a bit odd. I would have thought the secondary then to the
CPU. Anyone...

A really hard troubleshoot:
PC crashed, and it had 52 gigs of project data on it.
Symptom was system would not boot into Windows,
but it POSTED normally. Chkdsk gave bad files.
Also, the heat alarm was going off with CPU at 62 C.
I figured bad hard drive, so I got a new one, and I
also got a new...

Where did 1280x1024 come from? by
Mxsmanic
Why is 1280x1024 so often included among other resolutions as an
option for hardware and software monitor configuration? Almost all
monitors have a 4:3 aspect ratio, and all selectable resolutions have
the same ratio ... except 1280x1024. Why this exception to the rule?
There must be some sort of...

Replacing parts in a HP Pavilion 8693c by
The Seabat
Howdy: I have a neighbor lady who is on a fixed income and her Dell
computer has a bad motherboard/video. It's Dell Pavilion 8693c with a
533MHz Celeron chip and 128MB RAM, PC100. I tried putting a video card
in the PCI slot, but no-go. This 'puter is only used for email and
light web surfing and...

AMD/939: four double-sided DIMMs cause problems by
John Doe
Reading through the archive, I've noticed this problem come up and
(correct me if I'm wrong) but seen it dismissed. Looking at some
mainboard manuals, most common mainboards do not support four
double-sided DIMM memory modules.
Apparently using four double-sided DIMM memory modules will at...

CPU prices are all over the place by
John Doe
Anybody else notice how you can find prices for the same CPU
fluctuating from $100-$500 even among well-known stores? I currently
see two or three different AMD CPUs like that.

Ok, so I know this is an ancient all-in-one but I want it to work. No
laughing please. I bought this back when my computer (sort-of) ran on
Windows ME and the software that came with it was ME software. When I
upgraded to XP the printer worked to print, but all the scanning
features disappeared....

removable 3.5" drive cage. by

I bought a thermaltake bach media center case for a pvr/gaming pc. This
was my first experience with building my own system, but, after
reasonably few hiccups I got the unit assembled and functioning. I've
spent the past few weeks just playing around with it.
Unfortunately, there's an issue with...

I/O shield fins by
Daniel
Hi ...need some help .....
I completed the assembly of an ATX motherboard into a mid case. I had
to bend some of the fins of the I/O shield so that they wouldn't press
against the motherboard. I did this 'cause it was near to impossible to
align the MB with the spacers and screw it in. The fins...

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 vs. Barracuda ES by
Kris
Hello,
How do You think which hdd will be better for home PC - Barracuda 7200.10 or
Seagate Barracuda ES?
HDD will work in as single drive (not in raid).
Main advantage should be efficiency (performace) and reliability (solid).
Noise level and temperature are less important for me.
These hard...
