Running on WindowsXP Pro with Roxio's DirectCD 5.x and Iomega DVD+RW burner. DirectCD 5.x working wonderfully with WindowsXP and CD-RW and DVD+RW drives. After running Windows Update with HighMAT (from Windows Update), the system didn't recognise the burners (CD+RW and DVD+RW). The bios...

Anything you can spray on a "normal" cd to allow inkjet printing? by Doc
In a quest to use gear in ways the manufacturer says you can't, anyone know of or tried some aerosol product you could lightly mist on the label side of a CD/DVD to allow printing on an inkjet printer with direct CD/DVD printing capability and that for sure won't cause any damage? Yes, I know they...

AOL discontinuing Newsgroup access ! by Sam Ormes
AOL has informed users that in early 2005 that service will stop access to Newsgroups. Bummer. Sure, I can get to Newsgroups using the new Google "Groups" feature or thru IE.....but the AOL format for Usenet is much easier to read and manage. Send AOL a nasty email if this bothers you too.

AOpen 2040 Problem - Refuses to recognise any disc entered by Nadia
I'm having a bizarre problem with my AOpen CD-RW 2040. I've got a broadband connection and I'm often online. Recently, and rather stupidly, I temporarily took down my firewall. Then, two days ago, I turned on the monitor after sleeping, and found that there were a bunch of files ready to burn to my...

AOpen DUW1608/ARR -Cannot write CDR or CDRW with DirectCD by Sy
I just got this DVD writer and it works fine burning all media with Roxio EMC v.7, -Classic Creator, but I cannot get it to work with Drag and Drop (DirectCD). It will not recognise CDR, CDRW or DVDRW as writeable media, therefore it will not format, write nor erase the disc. I'm using Windows...

AOpen? by Ron
Maybe a tad off topic, but... Picked up a Buslink external DVD burner at BJ's for $99 as a backup to a much, much more expensive Plextor, having had a lot of luck with Buslink products over the years. Got it home, ran a few checks and discovered it's an AOpen. Could have been a Lite-On but no such...

Apology by Allen
I apologize for the way my post of earlier today appeared. I changed the subject so that the slug's message didin't appear, but the system apparently restored it. I've done this successfully before, but something happened this time. Allen

Arcam player stops playing newly burned discs by Mike O'Sullivan
A very strange problem today. My Arcam CD72 player has stopped recognising newly burnt CDR discs. "no disc" is the error message I get, but strangely it continues to play previously burnt discs, just not new ones. Even more strange, all these problem discs WILL play in my computer, my Panasonic...

archival-grade gold CD? by Steve T
Niece had photos burned to CD by Costco that had this statement on the jacket: "Your pictures have been burned to an archival-grade gold CD. When stored and handled properly, your pictures can be preserved for up to 300 years. " There is no brand name on the CD. Anybody point me to a brand or...

archive media - long term storage by Jim Michaels
though it is not archival media, it is a good quality media: Taiyo Yuden media lasts 100 years in a cool dark place, shelf life of 30 years. pretty much, any regular commercial cdr is supposed to last about 5 years with normal use, exposure to light, etc. Leave it on the seat of your car and...

Archiving On Bulk Spindles by chaase280
Hi, I have many backup cd's that I want to keep but they take up a lot of space in jewel cases or even sleeves. Does anyone out there archive their disks on the bulk spindles that they come on? Is there any danger of damage by stacking them? I realize that locating a specific cd would be a pain,...
