Ebuyer - Price Bloat and / or Creep by
News Reader
Hi,
It seems to me that eBuyer are increasingly bloating their prices and
allowing price creep on many items.
What do you think?
They used to seem like pretty much the benchmark of competitive prices
before they were taken over - I think profit optimisation might be the new
owners strategy?

Ordering online and VAT by
Michael
Hi, I am trying to buy a Laptop for my mother, who has her own
business, so shouldn't have to pay VAT. Have I got that right? Can
anyone here speak from experience - how does the process usually work,
do I give my VAT number when ordering or isn't it that straightforward?
Many thanks in...

Recommendations: PSU to replace a dead Antec by
Chris
Antec True380SP failed a few days ago and I need to replace it with
something a bit/lot more reliable. I've heard Q-tec are absolute crap,
and I don't really want to get another antec unit as their RMA procedure
is absolutely hopeless!
Any decent manufacturers out there nowadays? Sparkle spring...

Where to Comparison Shop for a Desktop in London by
Losher Ooka
I'll be pasing through London (the one in England) for a few days in
November visiting friends, and they've asked me to help them buy a
desktop computer so they can surf/email/edit word docs (but NOT
gaming) while I'm there.
If I were buying this at home (SF bay area) I'd either wait for a sale

PC World ad by
johannes
I was quite bemused when I opened a newspaper and saw this PC World ad:
400GB External Hard Drive - Stores up to 100,000 music tracks!
A young oik might think: "Oh well, I was just thinking of downloading
100,000 music tracks this evening, so this thingy might come in handy" :-)

Dabs / Viewsonic by
Doki
I've got a Viewsonic TFT monitor I bought last Sept or October from Dabs. In
the summer, I had to send it back because it had filled with insects (dealt
with very quickly), and then the replacement packed up in late August or
Early September (backlight flickered on then turned off immediately...

Good Vendors / Bad Vendors. by
Black Shuck
I have used a few over the years, and see a pattern, I'm sure every
company has their bad days, but perhaps we should try and see what trends
there are.
My Generally Good List:
Misco

WARNING: You'll be ill-advised to deal with XCASE. by
Sylvain VAN DER WALDE
Hello all.
I placed an order for a PC case (a new line) which they were advertising on
their website. They acknowledged my order, and took my money _straightaway_.
They still didn't have any stock available after 29 days, and when I
enquired was told that they didn't know when they would have...

Ebuyer refund excludes shipping - Pursue or not? by
higgy
I accept some fault on my part here, so I could let this go, but I
thought I'd seek other opinions first. The situation is this:
I ordered a mobo+CPU bundle 2 weeks ago and realised, the following
morning, that I could get a better combination by ordering the items
seperately. I should have...

New but faulty HDD: where do I stand? by
Mark Morreau
I already posted this in u.c.homebuilt but I think this group more relevant:
I bought a 320GB 7200.10 Seagate PATA HDD at a computer fair yesterday.
(Normally I buy from Span, but this was an emergency.)
When I got home the drive wouldn't format fully.
I ran Seatools on it and the drive has over...

I always steer clear of any company spamming me. I found this one rather
