Overvoltage protection for Seasonic S12 600 watt power supply ? by Skybuck
Hello, A power company in the Netherlands caused a voltage "punch" of 300 volts in some cities. (Damaging many computers, magnetrons, tv's, etc ) The normal voltage level is 220 volts. Is the Seasonic S12 600 watt power supply able to survive 300 volts ?

Windoze Ten no dual boot? by [email protected]
You can dual boot 10 beta, but RTM will be locked down, up and sideways. So you can't turn off UEFI? I will not be upgrading then.

got a free phenom II by Flasherly[_2_]
Damn, somebody just gave me this processor. Almost twice as fast as my current quad phenom (2.2ghz) - only it's not listed on the MB support list (Gigabyte m61pme-s2 ). Damn, I just may have to plug it anyway to be extra sure about that...might be Taiwan documentation is tardy... . Twice as fast...

Regor weirdness -- When things get weird, Weirdness get going. by Flasherly[_2_]
Three BIOS beeps only 1st time: UnRecognized Processor. So. That's what I'm now running, I guess. A Regor CPU on an unsupported MB. AKA: dualcore Phenom. Clock speed is correct - 3400. Dunno, don't ask me. The multipler @ 200FSB topped out at a BIOS limit of x11 on the Phenom x4 that...

Grounded Interests by Flasherly[_2_]
Somebody was recently getting a little bzzz off their case. Found it also on my stereo(s). Just enough to transmit amperage through hairs on the back of fingers from the mixer. Computer, stereoeos, all together ten boxes that carry operational voltages. Two with "ground-lift" switches,...

BSOD when running Core2 Quad Q9550 at stock 8.5 multiplier by Brassplyer
Just put together a machine using a Gigabyte EP45 DS3L mobo and a Core2 Quad 9550 2.83ghz stepping A Rev E0. Updated to latest non-beta bios for the board. I went into the bios to try oc'ing it and noticed it was only running at 8.0 multiplier netting 2.66ghz speed so I bumped it up to 8.5 where...

Mouse click no longer waking computer by Bill[_36_]
Recent problem. The Window 7 computer no longer wakes by mouse click. I have a Logitech g5 USB mouse. The power button does still wake the computer. I checked, and the option to "wake by mouse" is still selected. I haven't changed anything (myself)! I assume this may be due to a recent windows...

Mystery HP Compaq PC by [email protected]
Can anyone identify this HP Compaq computer. It has everything but a hard drive and I need to get documentation. There is a small sticker on the side with the following:...

Evercase cases do not last for ever by [email protected]
I was shown one of these things - the power button was busted. It has a spring made of clear plastic that also serves as a lightguide from the LED. Tried to get front panel off. 2 clips on one side, but the other looks like 3 hooks. You can swing the panel out about 15 degrees no more. God knows...

When a Green drive is not Green, especially by Flasherly[_2_]
Placing a new 2T -- WD Green 2TB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5-inch, ***SATA 6 Gb/s, IntelliPower, 64MB Cache WD20EZRX Couple of things surfaced when looking over the drive (after its initial sale price).... What makes it Green? For WD, apparently, an 8-second timeout to shutting the drive down and...

Printer ink by Mr Pounder
Forgive top posting. I have a HP C7180 printer with an empty orange cartridge. When this happens HP kindly stop all printing until you replace the cartridge. You can't even just print in black, I tried all the tricks I could find on Google. Like many others I am disgusted with HP. As I print very...

How close are SSDs to onboard memory? by Seymore4Head
I have always wanted my OS on a chip where if it gets infected you could just start over without a new install. With that in mind, could an SSD drive be designed so it plugs into the mobo? I assume memory is still much faster than SSD, but it would be nice if everything was self contained.

fans start-stop-start when booting by [email protected]
I have noticed with many PCs, when booting, the CPU fan goes on for a few seconds, stops, then starts again. On some the first start is at full screaming RPM. Why is this so? Some people even think something is wrong with the PC when it behaves thus.

stay the hell away from Sceptre/Wally Mart BF sales by Flasherly[_2_]
Least for a monitor/tv - notably SCEPTRE. Not just WallyMart but it's a brand sold all over. Mine crapped out in the most proverbial sense -- "to the day" the warrantee expired. Scepter F*ckers. Went to BBuy and bought their house Insignia - paid extra for their affiliations to a 5/yr....

STILL haven't built new :\ by pheasant16
The more I look at components, the less interest I have in building new. Old still has plenty of memory, storage and CPU reserve for what I do. Issue is running Win XP. Just got an email stating vendor will no longer support XP after 1Feb for a program I use frequently. If I would buy a new...

RAMGATE in full swing. (GPU/Cuda Memory Bandwidth Performance Test now available) nice for GTX 970 testing ! ;) by Skybuck Flying[_4_]
I had some hopes that maybe RAMGATE wasn't going to be so bad... but in reality it's quite BAD. Seems like NVIDIA's latest GTX 970 graphics chip is seriously bugged. It has 8 processors packed in a 4x2 package, sort of. One of those packages has one chip missing. So that chip is running at 50%...

OT Legitimate battery sellers? by John Doe[_9_]
Admittedly, I am good at reading between the lines, but I'm impressed by the confusion between good and bad batteries. On Amazon, it's rampant. That's obvious because some batteries sell for outrageously low prices with claims of superior performance. Even given Chinese dumping, many of them are...

question about PSU and heat inside a case by Yes[_2_]
Roughly, what percentage of the heat inside a case is generated by the PSU? Have manufacturers tried to move the PSU to a stand-alone external unit to reduce cooling requirements inside a case and/or provide more room for other stuff inside the case? These questions arose because I was looking at...
