Any reason why I shouldn't buy the Canon FS4000US? by Dimitris
Hi all, I'm considering forking out the 600-odd GBP for a FS4000US, was wondering if there are any (strong) reasons on not to buy it. I'm mostly concerned about it being "overtaken" by a newer version... after all, i think it has been around for a couple of years now. Any thoughts? Thanks Dimitris

Any scanner (or software) with "auto rotate"? by Rod
G'day Trendsetters, I have an Epson Perfection 1670 and I use it for scanning Postage Stamps I am pleased with it in general, as I can scan 30 stamps in one operation, however the images are naturally never perfectly positioned. I notice with my OCR, the scan will "auto rotate" the image prior to...

Any tips on how to scan in 8x10 pictures efficiently? by Paula Sims
Hello all, I have quite a few pictures larger than 4x6 that I would like to scan. I currently have the Epson Perfection 1640SU. I'm tempted to use the doc feed but the card stock is too thick. So that means doing each by hand. Is there an efficient way to place and remove the photos without...

Archival scans, 48bit, Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED, ? Gamma 1.0 ? by Gary Whitehead
Hi All, I wish to scan ~3-4000 slides, for two reasons, one to have the images available electronically but mainly to have a safe archive/backup of the images (most of these slides cover the period when I used to work for the British Antarctic Survey, are c20 years old and I would be gutted if I...

Are there any scanners that do not use USBSCAN.SYS? by [email protected]
There is a long-standing bug in Windows 2K and XP that prevents using two USB scanners on the same computer. Like many others, I want to use a Visioneer Strobe sheet fed scanner for single sheets and small items, as well as a full size flatbed scanner for bound pages, artwork, and large pages. The...

I have had problems with my Memorex 48U scanner in that that Windows XP wouldn't recognize it. Then I tried reinstalling the driver through the CD, reinstalling the driver through control panel, letting WinXP's wizard autodetect the scanner, unplugging and replugging, but to no avail. I kept...

Astra 2000U - Black Page by varegistry
I know....crappy scanner....LOL. It was given to me by a relative, my daughter wanted to scan her photos and email them to friends..so we don't need anything fancy anyhow. Anyway, it is recognized in device manager (Win98) and the Vistascan software (v3.7) recognizes the scanner and the test scan...

Astra 3400 driver by Randy Miller
Does anyone know where I might be able to download a Windows XP driver for the Astra 3400? I have the USB version. UMAX doesn't have it online, but instead requires that owners buy a CD. Mine is in storage, besides, the driver won't work on anything else, so I don't see why UMAX would object to...

Auto feed scanners? by Rod
Whilst visiting, I thought I'd pass this one by you. I like to scan some 1940 magazines (A4 format) Are there scanners available to auto feed and perhaps scan two sides? Do I need muscle in my computer to handle this? Any links to suitable vendors. Thanks for any info.
