Reburbished drive is BETTER than the NEW ONE?? wtf by
Crackles McFarly
I had one of those Seagate 7200.10 320GB drive made in CHINA, it made
that horrible CHIRP and other noises. I had it replaced, seagate sent
me a 'refurbished' drive from SNIGAPORE and it works VERY WELL.
Even benchmarks are 5%-10% BETTER!!???
Seems odd that a REFURBISHED drive would work so much...

Is anyone using eSATA? Need advice on controller and enclosure. by
BrooklynBadass
Hello
My brother has a small business with 7 workstations. He uses a Windows
XP workstation as his server but there is no RAID array or tape backup
and no free bays in the workstation. I'm looking for an inexpensive
way to provide RAID 1 plus tape backup. I was thinking of purchasing
an eSATA...

Recognizing USB drives after stopping them by
Tom Del Rosso
Sometimes when a user stops his small drive to remove it, he also stops the
other USB drive that remains connected. This is the sort of user who is
never going to get it right, so I wish there was a command that could
re-enumerate (or un-stop) any USB drives that are still connected. ...

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB VERY SLOW, help by
Crackles McFarly
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB 16MB Cache SATA2 is very
slow.
I'm using asus's A8S-X board which doesn't allow SATA 2 so it defaults
to SATA 1.
When the Jumper is ON it forces it to go to SATA ONE, I have the
jumper OFF making it SATA TWO which the motherboard does not support.
But...

I have fried the controller board on one of my Seagate Barracuda 320GB
SATA2 drives (accidental short while rebuilding a rig) and I am
looking for a spare board. Does anyone have a broken or used disk that
I could get or buy? Should I contact Seagate directly for a
replacement?
Luckily the...

Interface question for a Floppy Drive...... by
Solomon_Man
All,
I need some help on a problem I am faced with.
I have a large box of old 5.25 Floppies (a few hundred) from when I
got my first IBM PC back in 1989-90. I have pulled a few out and
tested them on my old 386 (latest computer with a 5.25 drive that I
have) and they seemed to read fine. Most of...

Raid 1 MTTR problem by
Gavin Melville
Hi,
One of those not so simple questions;
I have 2 x 300gb as a Raid 1 array,Intel ICH7 controller, and while I
havn't lost any data the 6-7 rebuilds in the last 6 months are, to say
the least, painful. A rebuild never finds any errors, and takes 5
hours. This is a Win XP workstation, and data...

Can't write partition table by
Grzesiek
Hi,
I have big problem. I lost my partition table, however, I was able to
guess it by gpart application. Right now I am trying to write it to
HD, but it is not so easy. I am using fdisk, however, when I exit from
fdisk, all partition information is lost (yes, I exit by "w" not "q").
Do you know...

Chkdsk problem... by

Hello,
While trying to make an image of an NTFS partition, the imaging
softwares (I tried with both "True Image" and "Ghost") reported that
errors on partition prevented the image to be completed.
For example, Acronis stated that it "Failed to read from the sector
