At start up I always have to choose, from which partition windows should continue. Eventually, I had to install win2000 anew on the same hard drive, since the other version got...

The system BIOS supports booting from a USB device (it seems it - but I need to fdisk the drive so that it is bootable). I am able to load the...

I have 3 Seagate 160GB SATA hdd's; 2 in my main PC & 1 in my 2nd PC. Both PCs are in the same room. According to SMART, the temperature of 2 in my main PC never exceeds 44C, but the temp of the one in my 2nd PC easily reaches more than 55C when idling. My 2nd PC recently has started to reboot...

More than 2 HDD (?) by tbl
I'd like to temporarily install some IDE HDDs that were in my previous system. Present mainboard (GigaByte GA-M55plus-S3g) has only one HDD controller/connector. Is it trivial to install another controller card and get these drives working so I can shuffle some data around? If so, how can I...

Reading disk temperature from SMART info by [email protected]
I recently bought an external WD MyBook 500 GB drive. The enclosed software (WD diagnostics) enables me to read drive's SMART parameters (I thought this would only be possible with internal drives) which is good. However, I'd like to know how to translate its "Temperature" parameter into something...

Max storage temperature hard drives by dumbo
I am sure this has already been covered, but initial google search found nothing. I need to store some 8-100 GB hard drives in a storage locker in Arizona, where temps could get to 140 F., but not directly in the sun. How high can the ambient temp. get without risking data loss?

Master/Slave and cooling by Howard Kaikow
Currently, system has: CD-RW on Primary controller as, I believe, Master. No Slave on Primary controller. ZIP on Secondary controller as, I believe, Slave. No Master on Secondary controller. I was thinking of putting both drives on one controller, with CD-RW as Master and ZIP as Slave.
