Award Bios Update by
Jan Steunebrink
Hi All,
Yes, this is the infamous Award BIOS 32GB limit bug. All 05/1999 and earlier
Award BIOSes have this limit.
I can send you a patched M5ATA BIOS where this limit is fixed. Please send
me an e-mail so I know where to send it to.
When the patched BIOS is tested, I will make it avaliable...

TWO Promise Cards by
DrSardonic
I have 4 hard drives attached to a Promise PCI card: A couple of 120 WD's,
an 80 Maxtor, and a new WD 200.
On the ATA I have a 100 WD and for the boot drive a 40 WD. The other ATA
spaces went for a cd writer and a DVD drive.
Can I put in another Promise card with a couple of drives?

suppliers of some odd bits? (UK) by
Piercarlo Grandi
I have just bought used a P4 Socket 423 motherboard, which came without
the fan clips; it has the retention brackets (the plasticy bits).
I'd like to find any (UK preferably) place that sells either:
* the clips only;
* a whole socket 423 fan assembly (plastic bits and clips);
* a heatsink and...

Why Maxtor 160GB is only 131069MB? by
cpliu
From Partition Magic, I can see
Western Digial 120GB = 114470MB
Iomega 120GB = 117796MB
Maxtor 160GB = 131069MB
I don't understand how they calculate the size but it should be only
called like 145GB than 160GB.
No matter you divide it by 1024 or 1000, Maxtor exaggerates their size

4.3GB HD detected as 2GB by
Erik Jälevik
I'm trying to get an oldish system up and running to put Linux on and am
having some problems with the HD detection. It's a Fujitsu MPC3043AT 4.3GB
drive and the Award BIOS dated 10/13/1998 detects it as 2112MB when left on
Auto.
I didn't think a BIOS with this date would have the 2GB limit so I...

Fdisk trashed both FATs, any way to recreate a single good? (Rich text) by
Folkert Rienstra
How does one tell a long story short?
Oh well, Fdisk wrote a whole bunch of F6 sectors all over the 2 FATs of
my E: partition (every 6 and 57 sectors) after I found that Fdisk didn't
show E: (but windows and DOS do) and I thought: let's see if it thinks that
it's free space or else occupied, can't...

OEM drives? How silent are 2.5" hardisks? by
Doru-Catalin Togea
Hi!
When I bought my laptop (Toshiba) two and a half years ago, it had a 6GB
hardisk which could be heard all the time while it (the hardisk) was on. I
then replaced it with a 20GB hardisk, an IBM I think, which is almost
completly silent. You must really concentrate in order to hear...
