Measuring L1 I-cache misses on P4 by JC
I'm interested in measuring L1 I-cache hits/misses for a program of mine running on a P4 (D-cache hits/misses may also be interesting). The Intel manual's treatment of performance counters on the P4 is pretty opaque. I feel like I'm doing my taxes. Does someone know offhand if this is possible...

1 o 2 MB di memoria cash? by max
Ciao a tutti.

Hublink utilization information, possible to get? by David Schwartz
I have a couple of systems with Intel Canterwood chipsets. I'm concerned about the bandwidth between the northbridge and the southbridge and was looking for some way to estimate how much of that bandwidth the system was using. I've looked at the documentation for the 6300ESB and the 82875P...

Power consumption of Pentium 4 570J (3.8Ghz) by ykhan
Intel quietly introduced the latest Prescott, a 3.8 Ghz chip with the NX-bit support available (that's why it's got the "J" designation). They seem to have introduced a new, improved halt state to keep things cooler. Intel's Pentium 4 570J 3.8GHz processor - The Tech Report - Page...

925xe Motherboards by Caecina
Do they require 24-pin connectors? I've heard no mention of this, anywhere. Specifically, the new 'Fata1ity' board.

Are Intel Chipset INF installer, Application Accelerator needed on XP Pro SP2? by Aloke Prasad
For the Intel 850 chipset motherboard, these are pretty old (released in early 2003). Are this still needed (or do they help) on a fresh install of XPPro with Service Pack 2 ? I figured that MS would be using the latest information about the chipsets, IDE drivers etc..with it's latest service...

Hyperthreaded vs 2 processors by OneSolution
How do you determine whether a system has 2 processors or 1 hyperthreaded processor? I have to administer a system that is installed remotely, and so I can't actually open it. No one is there to open it and tell me. I need to figure out if it has 2 processors or not, as the system info shows 2...

Upgrading, Northwood or Prescott ? by Paul Wadland
Hi, Sorry if this has been asked lots of times before but I am considering upgrading my 2.8 Ghz P4 to a 3.2 Ghz P4 but do not know whether to go for a Northwood or Prescott chip. What exactly is the difference ? I have checked compatibility with my MSI 875P Neo Motherboard and both chips will fit....

Intel's C compiler, LoadLibrary deadlock by Henry Markov
I couldn't find a NG that seemed to be a better match. A 3rd party provides a DLL to me, call it X.dll, that was compiled with Pentium-M specific optimizations. A dumpbin /dependents command on X.dll shows that it is dependent on libmmd.dll that is provided by Intel. The program that uses...

Hard disk speed from 4.5 to 38 MB/sec. Why? by Lance
I did a good thing yesterday but I can't figure out how I did it. I hope someone can lend a clue. We have an older Dell Optiplex GX1 with 5 drives (2 HDs, 2 CDs, 1 ZIP). One of the CD drives has been disconnected for a long while since there aren't enough motherboard IDE controllers to handle all...
