iiyama Vision Master Pro 514 (HM204DT) vs Mitsubishi Diamond Pro (2070SB-BK) by
Steve Rossiter
Hi,
Here are two great monitors utilizing the same DiamondTron 22" tube
but not knowing all the subtleties I'm looking for input on their
finer differences. The iiyama supports slightly higher refresh rates
but nothing that I think would make a major qualitative difference. On
the other hand the...

PCI-Busmastering on ABit KT7A-Raid under WinXP Pro SP1a by
Jakob Dölling
Morn:
I have a KT7A-Raid mainboard with a Voodoo 3 3k gfx
card and a AMD TBird-800. That combination had "seen" three Windows OS (NT
Wks 4 (yea), 2k and
now Win XP pro). Using PC-Busmastering dependent devices such as the
Hauppauge series TV cards and SCSI host adapters was no problem....

CPU at 75 Degrees C at boot! Help! by
Strontium
Your temps will show a tad higher, before XP, Win2K, or NT load. These OS's
have CPU throttling, built in, that shaves about 10C off your temps at idle.
There used to be a program, a few years back called CPIIdle, that did the
same thing in Win9x. My temps show approx. 10C higher, when viewing in...

What's the fastest reliable CPU for an Intel SE440BX mobo? by
Tony Roe
Hi,
I have an old Win98SE PCs based on an Intel SE440BX mobo, with P2-350 CPUs. I
also have Pinnacle DC20 video capture card and a Guillemot Isis 8+8 audio I/O
system, both of which refuse to work reliably in any more recent mobo (P3-866,
P4-2.60 and a Celeron), so I'm stuck with the dinosaur, at...

Problem upgrading HDD by
Jeff
I am replacing a 20Gb HDD - which just isn't big enough any more -
with a new larger one. The old drive is set up just the way I want
it, with music recording apps, drivers and settings, and I'm very
reluctant to have to start again with a new, empty drive.
So, I've installed the new drive as a...

making my box more quiet? by

Okay, now this is an odd one you'll think from a guy who has been in
IT for several years and worked around my my share of corporate data
centers and hardware in general.
But, my most recent Linux box at home started life as a $200 box from
WalMart.com. You know, the Microtels. This thing runs...

Need upgrade advice, please by
steve randall
I want to upgrade my K6-2 450Mhz to, at least 2Ghz, 512MB as
inexpensively as possible.
I realize I'll need a new MB and CPU and have no problem with AMD.
I'm not a "hot rodder". I use my computer for running MS Office,
Goldmine and DL'ng, burning and copying music. I have 80 MB's of Hard
disk...

USB flash card reader jams up by
larrymoencurly
I have Belkin and PQI USB 1.1 flash card readers that get stuck if I
try to copy more than about 20MB of files to it, but only if the USB
port uses a VIA chip. It doesn't matter whether the VIA chip is USB
1.1 or 2.0. Upgrading the VIA USB filter and IRQ steering didn't
help, but I was unable...
