Hitachi DKR1B-J47SC modeselect to 512bytes/sector by
Corey
I have quite a few DKR1B-J47SC (and a few DKR1C-J72SC) Hitachi
harddisks pulled from a decommissioned Lightning 7700E that we would
like to reuse. They are formatted at 520 bytes/sector. When I attempt
to issue a modeselect to change them to 512, they 'accept' the command,
but don't write the new...

ANOTHER REASON WHY LINUX SUCKS. by
Sally Vadi
Juk with 20k mp3's. Try typing something into the search bar and wait,
and wait and wait and wait for the cursor to catch up. This is on a P4
3.6ghz machine.
Amarok Has ANYONE been able to make this POS work?
It crashes all the time and seems to want to scan my collection of mp3
files every time...

Overpowering the SATA by
ricardogonzalezIII
No I am not in a wrestling compo with a HDD. I have (stupidly) connected
my molex AND my SATA power connectors to my WD SATA drive and now my
system won't see it. Actually I don't think it's even spinning up which
leads me to believe I have toasted the controller card.
Sending it to a data...

Even DELL says LINUX IS A DUD!!!! by
Sally Vadi
I just tried to order a Dell Desktop System without Windows installed
and asked if I could get Linux installed instead.
After the guy on the other end of the phone stopped laughing, he asked
me:
So which one of the 500 plus versions of Linux did you have in mind?
(I heard him laughing)....
I...

[email protected]
Hi :)
I just got a external Quantum DLT-7000 SE TH6BE-YF Tabletop unit,

windows file system limit (with Veritas) by
Faeandar
Does anyone know if Veritas somehow allows a MSCS cluster to have a
file system beyond 2TB?
I've heard that it can allow volumes with dynamic disks to grow beyond
2TB but MSCS doesn't allow dynamic disks.
Thanks.

Windows driver for EMC Symmetrix disk array? by
Hack
I'm struggling to get an HP Proliant server (running Windows 2000 SP4)
to recognise an EMC Symmetrix disk array.
I'm using a HP "FCA2214DC" fibre adapter in the server (from the Qlogic
website, this seems to be re-badged QLA2340). The fibre adapter
appears to be working OK in Windows. However,...

Disturbing Trends with Tape Drives and Backup Software by
[email protected]
I recently had a Dell DLT autoloader die on me and had to replace the
system. I had hoped the trends of tape backup systems and software
would have improved with time no such luck.
I purchased an Exabyte Magnum 1x7 LTO 3 autoloader to replace the old
Dell drive and to give us more backup...

Zone Changes on MDS9120 take a while to change active zoneset by
SteveO
Whenever I make a change to zones on my MDS9120 it takes a long time to
change the active zoneset. Since I haven't had formal training yet I
may be missing a step.
1.) Add new zone
2.) Add members to zone
3.) add zone(s) to zoneset
4.) zone commit force
A sh zones shows the changes but sh active...
