Some early benchmarks for P4EE by Yousuf Khan
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11670 Ace's Hardware seems to be seeing between 2-15% improvement from the 2MB L3 cache. Ace's will also be doing a head to head against processors from a "rival" processor manufacturer in a couple of days, when their NDA expires. Stay tuned. Yousuf Khan

Intel: The chipset is the product by Robert Myers
What do you do when you're having competitive problems with your main product and there is no guaranteed relief in sight? You change the subject. At least, that's what I infer Intel to be doing with Grantsdale: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/tech/news/2591485 quote

"Cool Running" Processors ? by rpl
Thinking about getting a new MB and because the fans in the old one drive me nuts, I'm trying to find a cool running processor; Crusoe doesn't make MBs yet (at least none that are in a reasonable price range), and I'm not quite geeky enough to get a PPC/Atari setup. Is there a modern Intel...

IA64 by Jonathan de Boyne Pollard
The x86 line is long past retirement time, but the IntelMicrosoft cartel won't allow it. Intel spent much of the 1990s and a large amount of money trying to retire it and convince the world that IA64 was the thing to use instead. The world stuck with x86, and came up with x86-64. So...

who is using a Xeon Phi? by [email protected]
Presumably this is the most cores sharing memory available, about 60, but only 1-1.2 GHz each. I guess it would need some tweeking of code that was written for nodes of 6/8/12 CPUs.

Skypond and Kabypond hyperthreading bug by [email protected]
allegedly this was discovered a while back, so it can't be triggered too often. Anyway I turn off hyperthreading as I doubt operating cisterns are proficient at scheduling all the different processors (Bulldozer, Zen, HCC Xeons) as well as simple i5/Phenom II style CPUs.

This news has made AMD'ers happy by Yousuf Khan
Seems that for one week this past month, there were more AMD-based desktops sold than Intel-based. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/hardware/33636.html For the week ending April 24th, 52% of retail desktops were AMD, and only 47% were Intel. Minor, temporary victory? Absolutely. Just a victory...

Intel's super-dooper i9 by [email protected]
It looks like AMD have caused Intel to pull their finger out at last, after giving us teeny improvements the last few tick-tocks. Must be worried about Threadripper, so they announce extreme i9 with 16 even 18 cores. But wait, they have only revealed half the specs.... How much cache will it have,...
