Multiplier question, bios or hardware... ? by
Bougon
I own an old AOpen AX64 MoBo. I know a bios update can't give me a wider
range of possible FSB that Bios offers because these are the only ones
supported by the clock generator of my motherboard (ICWorks W144H).
But, is the clock multiplier a bios issue or is it related to hardware as
this is the...

Motherboard ID please by
Li'l ol' me
Think you're right. You beat the other guy by 2 mins, but thanks to you
both!
I'm pretty sure it takes an Athlon (palomino), but when I hook this up, the
board powers up by itself (but doesn't post) and the only way to shut it off
is the mains switch (ouch!) as the front panel wont respond (or...

Best video card for around $200? by
Christoph
I'm not incredibly knowledgeable on video cards and have been
looking to get a new one. Currently, I have a geForce 420mx
and it's going ok but some of the games I've been getting lately
are running slow. And it's not the PC because it's incredibly fast
for regular apps.
I've got an nVidia MB...

To anyone who uses a Canon printer by
David Johnson
When you see the on-screen graphic that indicates the ink in one or more
containers is running low, do you generally replace the cartridge at
that point, or is there enough ink left that it would be too wasteful to
toss the old one, and you just keep making printouts as needed until you
can see a...

Graphics card with RGB out? by
-
So what the hell can I do?
I saw a cool gadget that takes an s-video in and then allows you to play out
via two or three scarts. Its possible and is a lot cheaper than a new
graphics card.

UK Laptop and iPAQ in USA by
Simon
The power supply for my laptop can take anything from 110 - 250 volts, 50
to 60 Hz, so it would be no problem for me. Have a look on yours, it
might have a sticker that says what it can handle. If not, read the manual
for your laptop.

bios hung while flashing by
mdp
Actually, if you want to hot flash (a "not for the faint of heart" method to
recover a bad flash), you'll need to set the BIOS to cacheable in order to
pull the BIOS chip out while it's running.

Multi displays - onboard and seperate? by

If you are running XP or 2K.... Set the PC to boot off of the AGP card,
and
when in Windows, set the PCI card to the primary in the display properties
dialog.
Good idea, unfortunately as soon as windows boots up win2k), the monitor
switches itself off - maybe its loading the wrong drivers -...

I'm in the market for a DVD burner ... by
Cyde Weys
I just received some e-mail ("spam") that offered a great deal on a DVD
burner: only $140! Before I buy it though, I have some questions ... it
supports +R and +RW media. Are these the good kinds? I.e. compatible
with DVD players? Also, the DVD-R write speed is 4X - is that bad,
good, etc.? ...

How does a USB 2.0 HDD compare to a internal IDE drive? by

I just bought a USB 2 drive kit that converted a regular HDD (Maxtor

Partition Hard Drive? by

I didn't know that a FAT32 drive for the swap file would be faster. By
how
much?
There's not a lot in it, maybe 10%. If the drive's on a slow controller it
can be noticable.

Transferring PC Details by
Peter Cavan
HI
I have ordered a new PC and have started to move some stuff onto CDs to take
to the new PC. I have got all My Documents and save files for programs, and
wanted to know what else I should keep. For example, how do I backup all of
my Outlook Express settings? Is there a way to copy my messages?...
