“500 Petabytes And Counting”
https://www.backblaze.com/blog/500-petabytes-and-counting/
“It seems like only yesterday that we crossed the 350 petabyte mark. It
was actually June 2017, but boy have we been growing since. In October
2017 we crossed 400 petabytes. Today, we’re proud to...

Why is a smaller folder taking longer to be backed up than a largerone? by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
Okay, so I do daily Macrium file backups of my entire User folder, with
monthly fulls at the beginning of each month. All except one specific
subfolder which takes longer than all of the rest of the User folder
combined to backup. So I've excluded it, and I back it up in a separate
backup job...

Do those disk wipe utilities make a difference in an SSD? by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
I've been wondering does it even make sense to have a disk or file wipe
utility in an SSD? Written data doesn't even get written to the same
blocks that the previously read data was in an SSD. So basically, all
old data still exists until the Trim command is executed, even if you
try a wipe of...

SSD health check utilities? by
Percival P. Cassidy
I installed a 128GB mSATA SSD in a ThinkPad T430 to use for HD caching
and for hibernation. HDSentinel shows its health as 82%. SSDLife, on the
other hand, shows it as 100% healthy.
Which should I believe?

Now I know why the 8 TB and 10 TB drives are in short supply. Between
Backblaze and the NSA, not many are left for us common folks.

No RPM given? by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
Looking at this model of Seagate 4TB drive, the ST4000DM005, and I can't
find the RPM for it anywhere. Is this a new thing with drive
manufacturers, not revealing the drive speed?

how to get my 8 TB bare drive out of the WD 8 TB USB external drive by

I just figured out how to get my 8 TB bare drive out of the WD 8 TB USB
external drive to work in a pc as a backup drive. The drive was
formatted exFAT which hung the file server pc boot for some reason. I
put the USB daughter board back on the bare drive and hooked it up to my
office pc. It...

WD1600YS is not 160GB by
[email protected]
I have a WD1600YS disk, and try to clone it to another WD 160 GB disk,
but Clonezilla tells me that it is 165 GB!
So look at the label, it says 160 GB, but also 321672960 LBA.
Then look at other WD drives in the junk shelf, and they are 312581808 LBA.
So first world problem, I complain I got a few...
