XP does not turn the computer off by
Uzi Barzilai
I installed XP on a used Gateway computer.
Model: GP6-450 (P2 450Mhz).
XP does not turn the computer off
It re-boot, instead.
Is it a bios setting?
XP setting?
Any advice will be appreciated.

Wife' has a fairly recent Gateway Notebook AMD Turion 64, 1 GB (don't
remember the model, but it's not top of the line.)
Recently is started grinding to halt after she logged in. Task Manager
showed SVCHOST taking up 99% of the CPU. After futzing around and disabling
things I finally discover...

WTD: Motherboard Layout for Gateway Gateway 4000206 by
TonyG
I am desperately in need of a motherboard layout diagram or pin assignment
diagram for the Gateway 4000206 (Intel AL440LX) motherboard. If you have
such a manual and can scan the layout diagram and pin assignment tables for
me, it would be much appreciated.

I have two original 6MSB Gateway laptop batteries rated at 11.1V 4800mAh.
Although I purchased another on online that is compatible with my laptops,
but it turns out to be a 8MSBG and rated at 14.4V 4800mAh.
Well I plugged it in and it charged okay. I also ran my laptop on battery
and that worked...

I have a 700XL running XP Home. I made an image of my C Drive using Drive

DVDs.
When I tried to use Roxio I got a message that "The current file system
can't write files larger than 4 GB. A UDF file system (without bridge)...

Write caching by
SC Tom
OK, I'm turning to the experts here- if a notebook HDD has write caching
enabled, and the power option is to turn the drive off after 10 minutes of
inactivity, does it flush the cache before shutting down, or does it just
shut down? I never really thought about it before, but the Intel update...

wireless netwok, off-topic, but I have 2 gateways ;) by

I am buying a house that is prewired with CAT-5 everywhere. The cable comes
into the house in a metal closet from whence all in-house wiring emanates,
so I can't put a wireless router there (signal wouldn't get out due to
metal, I think). There will be two computers in the immediate future, one...

I recently dumped the aging McAfee AV on my P5-90
