protect NAS from dust by
[email protected]
Hi,
I'm going to install a Infrant EasyNAS nv+ in the basement of my
house. It's a pretty clean place but i guess i still have to protect
the nas device from dust. What do you guys use for this? Is there
some sort of protective case available (glass or something?) which
would still allow for...

What is Sisoftware Sandra trying to tell me? by
George Adams
I'm trying to figure out why my PC (a homebuilt 2.8Ghz P4, 1Gig RAM) is
going so slow these days when it used to be fairly nimble. Even the
nuclear option - reformat and reinstall Windows XP - hasn't really
helped that much.
I suspect the hard drive (Western Digital 200G, 7200RPM, 8M cache). ...

C drive is not first disk... by
Ian R
Hi
When I first built my system I only had one drive (WD1500) and OS and Apps
installed without any problems.
Its currently configured with C as the primary drive plus extended partition
with three logical drives
I've since added more physical drives (a mix of SATA and IDE).

New Laptop Technology You Need To Know (Before Buying Your Next Laptop) by
jessi
Laptop or notebook computer technology is advancing at a blistering
speed. Ferrari fast. So fast that by the time you purchase your new
laptop, it's probably already obsolete or out of date. A sobering
thought considering the hefty prices you have to pay for a high-end
laptop.

SC101 mirror problems by
[email protected]
Hi All,
I have just installed a Netgear SC101 in at my kids gymnastics club.
It has been working fine up till now - when I thought I was doing the
right thing and upgraded the firmware and client software - as netgear
encourages. However, things have gone a little haywire now.
I have two disks...

Extend Existing Disk Into a RAID 1 Array by
[email protected]
Hello all,
I currently have a Dell Optiplex desktop with a 160GB SATA drive that
contains an existing installation of Windows XP Pro. I have worked
with RAID cards before where when you create the array you can extend
the data from the source disk into the other disk in the mirrored
array but I...

Hi,
this seems to be the place to post this question but am happy to post
to another group if there is a better one for the question.
Situation:
I was about to reinstall W2K on my laptop but before doing so I was
going to copy some files first across the network.

K62 550 for a DIY NAS? by
Dr. Baltar
Hi,
I purchased 4x 250 GB deskstars (sataII) , hoping to put them in RAID 5
and I had a few questions:
I have an old K62 550 with a decent Inwin ATX case. I'm contemplating
purchasing the 4 port PCI SATA II controller from Promise and sticking
it in the old machine. The Power Supply is 250...

Quantum DLT IV tape drive and PCI interface card compatibility by
JM[_2_]
Anyone know why the SATA/150 PCI card that came with a Maxtor SATA
drive won't recognize my SATA tape drive?
Reading the manual and from what I have googled it seems maybe the
card only supports hard disk drives. Is this really a limitation of
PCI cards? If so can someone recommend me a PCI (not...

Bluetooth storage device for phones by
rishil
The device is a sort of small HDD in your hand but it could be better
if somehow fitted it with the cellphone, as it will not be hassle free
to carry two devices(cellphone and BluOnyx). The amount of data that
you can store in this device ranges between 1 GB to 40 GB. This 85 x
54 x 6 mm devices...

PartitionMagic, system partition copy failed? by
Jonathan Sachs
I recently repartitioned my hard disk with PartitionMagic 8.0, which I
have not used before. Among other changes, I created a new partition
by copying my system (drive C) partition, which contains Windows XP.
I hid the copy, intending it to be a backup in case I ever made a
disabling change to the...

How display which HDDs have powered down? by
Joe S
How can I display which hard drives on my XP PC have powered down?
I have several hard drives (sometimes connected via a PCI adapter
board).
When I use the PC after a long period of inactivity then some hard
drives spin up. But it seems that not all hard drives do and some hard
drives will...

S.M.A.R.T. Spin Up Time Attribute (03) Question by
RD
I have a Western Digital WD2000JB-00GVA0. The value for the Spin Up Time
attribute is 89. I have two additional WD2000JB drives and there attribute
values are 131 and 135. It appears the "threshold" value is 21. I'm guessing
the drive with the 89 is showing it's age--about 4 years old I'm...

Intel RAID Controller SRCSAS18E extremly hot by
wbehrent
The CPU-Unit on this RAID Controller becomes extremely hot (I guess
about 80 degrees Celsius) after a few minutes. (Even without any SAS/
SATA Drives attached!)
My question is if that is normal for that controller?.
Do I need to cool it or does the controller raise an alarm once it
gets to hot?.
