HDD enclosure for 1 TG drives, compatible with Venus? by
Mad Scientist Jr
I need an external SATA USB2 enclosure for a 1 TB hard drive that uses
the same power supply as Venus.
In the past few years I have been happy with Venus enclosures and
already own several for my 6 existing drives (200-500 GB).
Now I am shopping for a 1 TB drive and would prefer to put it...

Can I split off a new partition after I installed my Win 98SE OS? by

I did a clean install of windows 98 SE on my computer after doing a
format of the hard drive. I have put a few other things on it’s hard

drive with 1.13 GB used and 26.7 GB free. Would it be ok to try and
partition at this time? I...

Moving HDD from damaged laptop (rain water spillage) to another one by
boss[_2_]
Hi folks,
Rain water destroyed my HP 6820s. Bought new one (same model with
faster CPU). Can I safely move HDD from damaged laptop to new one? If
HDD is damaged also (50% sure it is) can it damage my new laptop?
Thanks for all answers and have a great weekend!

Does XP 32 bit support eSATA by
Ato_Zee
I've a P5VD2-X mobo with OS caddy.
64 bit XP Pro, eSATA off SATA mobo header
hot swaps.
32 bit XP Pro, same PC, eSATA off same
SATA mobo header doesn't hot swap.
So obviously the mobo supports hot
swapping.

Seagate - SMART Raw Read Error Rate test by
Franc Zabkar
I've been trying to make sense of the SMART Raw Read Error Rate
attribute reported by my Seagate drive, model ST3120026A.
To this end I have conducted an experiment where I've booted to a
FreeDOS diskette which creates a RAM drive containing the following
programs:
debug.exe (from MS-DOS)

can't eject usb drive by
Tom Del Rosso[_3_]
Curious... Sometimes I try to eject my USB drive and I get "can't be
stopped right now". Filemon says nothing is accessing it. The condition
persists, until I run a chkdsk which says "no problem". Then it ejects with
no problem. Any idea what would cause that? The drive had not been
accessed...

problem with acronis true image home 12 and sata drives/MBR issue by

Hi.
Somehow I prefer to make images of the harddisk containing the
operating system by booting from an acronis CD and making an image of
the drive containing the OS from there.
Perhaps in the past I've experienced problems making a boot from
within windows while the operating system is running,...

I want to buy a USB External case for a Samsung 1TB SATA drive. Who
makes the best reasonably priced one? I want one with good cooling
and some shock protection.

the case does hold more than one drive, the drives should look...

Hi,
I'm developing a SATA storage device, and I'm hot-plugging it in
Mandriva Linux 2008.1 for testing on a Dell Vostro 420 system(P45
chipset, ICH10 in AHCI mode). Sometimes I get a popup window informing
me of the detected drive, but sometimes I don't. I've also noticed
from my probing, that...

Experiences with hardware-FDE laptop disks? by
Troels Arvin
Hello,
Does someone here have experiences with full-disk encrypting harddisks? -
I.e. where the disk performs the en/de-cryption and where the en/de-
cryption key/phrase is provided at boot-time, through a password prompt,
or other methods?
If so: Have you had trouble getting the disk and the...

Western Digital VelociRaptor Models by

I'm planning to get the Western Digital 300GB VelociRaptor drive for a new
PC. I'm trying to figure out the difference between the following two
versions of this same drive:
WD3000GLFS
WD3000HLFS
I think it has something to do with the data and/or power connectors but
I'm not sure. Any clues...

Need system to hold 10 hard drives by
Danny[_4_]
I am a home user on XP pro and have accumulated about 10 hard drives.
Mostly IDE, some SATA.
My PROBLEM is that I would like to have 6 or 7 of these online.
I only know straightforward PC hardware such as my desktop system
that has room for a few hard drives. So my solution was to get a new...

Need a utility to make a subdirectory look like a drive letter by

I had a near disaster this morning, when a drive less than 2 months old
started getting excessive retry errors, which resulted in the drive
disappearing from BIOS detection. Long story short, after a bit of
fiddling with the SATA cables I got the thing to work again normally.
But needless to...

I've gotten that great HD Sentinel, free version that was mentioned in

There are 50 bad sectors on the disk surface. The contents of these
sectors were moved to the spare area. The drive found 2 bad sectors
during its self test....
