Is it true that CDRs are more durable, and much more scratch-resistant, than CDRWs? Is it also true that CDRs are generally more readable by various consumer-level electronics than CDRWs?

If have been getting coasters lately because of overload PSU. It usually fails during lead-in/out. I can read them with ISO buster, and the lastest one was bootable. Apparently there is no TOC, but Award BIOS does not seem to care. Is there any software to close such CD-Rs?
