64-bit Semprons by
Nudge
Hello everyone,
Now that AMD sells "64-bit enabled Semprons", I am left to wonder:
What are the differences between 90nm "64-bit enabled" 754-pin
Semprons and 90nm 939-pin Athlon 64s?
1. The Sempron's memory controller is single channel while the
Athlon's is dual channel. Is that right?

775 mutton dressed up as 478 lamb? by
Orson Cart
I was sorting through my junk box, and noticed one the Pentium 4 CPUs
had on it 2M cache. I thought this must be the last of the socket 478
line, so looked ut up at Intel website. It is spec SL7Z9. However,
their webpage says is LGA775. I know there were a few models that
were issued in both 478...

865Perl 2.8 P4 Temperature Problems by
Mark Lewis
I am having an overheating issue with a no-name box I got from CompUSA. The
problem is that the machine will often crash on boot with a CPU Overheating
message when the machine has been off for some time and the room temperature
is in the low 60's F (about 16C). When the machine does finally boot...

8W Athlon 64 offers better performance & energy savings than IntelAtom by
Yousuf Khan
Just a regular old Athlon 64 underclocked to 1GHz, offers both higher
performance and lower power consumption than Intel Atom systems. A lot
of the efficiency is due to the AMD/ATI 780G chipset, which consumes
just 0.95W! That is compared against the Intel 945GC chipset which used
up a whopping...

90nm Athlon64s - how much power? by
Felger Carbon
Does anybody know how much power the 90nm K8 dissipates? The reason I
want to know is, there's a .37C/W HSF (heatsink/fan) available whose
noise level really is 21dBA.
A Thermaltake subsidiary(?), TR2TT, has a 21dBA 32.4CFM 2500rpm 80mm
fan that they use in 4 HSF models:
AMD K7 TR2-M3 (TT...

945G/GL Chipsset and Windows 98 by
darkrats
Does anyone know of drivers that will work with the Intel 945G/GL chipset
and
Windows 98. I'm speaking about the First Edition of Windows 98, not Windows
98SE.
I've tried a number of drivers discovered on the net, but so far without
success.
Intell provides drivers only for the Second Edition of...

9W Athlon 64's for HP blade PC's! by
YKhan

9 Watts and no fans, replaces a niche that Transmeta processors
previously filled. 9W is less than the lowest-power Turion MT.
