50% price cuts for AMD X2's by
bbbl67
The price war is getting underway now, it's great to be a PC consumer
again, if not a shareholder in these companies. It's in response to
Intel's imminent release of the Core 2 architecture.

512 MB memory hole in Fujitsu-Siemens Celsius V810 by
Rui Pedro Mendes Salgueiro
Hello
Recently our department bought a Fujitsu-Siemens Celsius V810 with
4 GB memory. This has two Opterons processors and a D1692 motherboard,
similar to a Tyan Thunder K8W (S2885). The BIOS version is 1.04.1692
(2004/06/22).
The computer only shows 3.5 GB (this is both in the BIOS, the...

512k cache vs 128k for video editing by
Art
I'm upgrading my old rig (Athlon 2200+, Asus board) to a new ECS KN1 board
with a Athlon 64 processor. Here's the question. I do alot of video
rendering and editing. I can afford about 110-130 USD for the chip. Should
I get a faster Sempron 64 with a smaller cache, or a slower Athlon 64 with...

5V board in a 3.3V PCI slot by

Hi,
I have a problem with a Dialogic board "DM/IP301-1e1-PCI".
I installed that board in a Piv 1.6Ghz Mainboard D845WN and I can't do
it starts. The board's power requirements are 22.5W @ 5V, and using PC
Wizard I see that the PCI slot used by the Dialogic board has this

64 bit 604-pin Xeon Nocona by
RusH
Intel showed this thingie on 2004 Barcelona IDF.
The funny thing - 64bitness is realized with 2 32bit units and 64bit
instructions need TWICE the time compared to 32bit instructions. I may be
wrong here, but thats what I understood when reading/hearing about this
chip. My impression was that Intel...

64 bit AMD pro's and con's ? by
steve h.
Hi,
TIA for your informative replies. My friend has advised me not to
purchase an AMD 64-bit processor at this time, citing concerns with
severe software incompatibility except for MS Server 2003 and Linux 64
bit OS'es. What are your experiences ?

64 bit Bridge for sale. by
Michael Pell
imho, buying a chip without an assembler
is like buying a fuel cell powered car.
Since AMD has embraced open source
they should just post their assembler source
and LETS GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD.
Or maybe we should just wait for Intel. If
Intel was smart they would announce x86-64
tomorrow knowing...

64 bit chips and software ??? by
Harry Muscle
I was wondering if someone could maybe elaborate a little on the new 64 bit
processors that are comming out soon and how they will most likely affect
us.
First I'm wondering, can software written for the 64 bit processors run on
our current 32 bit ones? If not, what timelines do the big companies...

64 bit Prescott by
Dan Irwin
hi,
I'm thinking of buying the a high end 478 MoBo with a Prescott CPU. I
have been debating weather or not i will get a good balance of
longevity and power out of it, because it is not 64 bit like the
athlon64s are. A bit after thinking about this i heard that later
Intel will add 64 bit to...

64 bit slower? by
Stacey
http://www.anandtech.com/guides/viewfaq.html?i=112
Unless this is way off the mark, what advantage is a 64bit chip going to
have for desktop performance? I can see where a server/database/large
number crunching with a bunch of ram it would be great but for typical
desktop use it doesn't seem like...

64-bit or 32-bit: When will it matter? by
aether
Building a computer from scratch. It'll be built for someone who'll use
it for alot of things, but tilted in the 'gaming' direction. Should
whether the processor is 64-bit or 32-bit matter? If not, when? If so,
how so? In other words, should I go AMD or Intel? I understand AMD is
slightly faster...
