AVOID STAPLES! REBATES ARE A TRIP TO H...! by geezer
I pass this along just to warn you out there that buying hardware from Staples that has a rebate may look like a worthwhile endeavor, but be prepared for a fight to get that rebate. I bought a Minolta 1350W Laser Printer three weeks ago, and am still fighting with the Staples Rebate Center, who...

Choosing the right Hardware by Steven Hook
Hey... I'm due for an upgrade, but it's been a long time since I've actually chosen hardware, to me a 2.1GHZ processor is rubbish, but with core 2 duo, it'a all I can afford. I've never been one for laptops, cos of the cost / performance ratio, but I'm finding myself using a work laptop more and...

PC losing date-time after power outage by Michael T.
Every time there is a power outage my Dell 4600C displays an old date. The rather obvious solution seemed to be that CMOS battery needed replaced. So I replaced the battery (3-V CR2032 coin cell). Many months went by until another power outage occurred today. Well lo & behold when the power...

ASUS Sabertooth z87 unstable by DevilsPGD[_5_]
I've got a brand new ASUS Sabertooth z87 which is acting a bit unstable. It started with a BSOD when enabling Hyper-V, or when installing certain drivers (Intel's Rapid Storage, for example), but after a BSOD, resetting using the hardware reset switch would hang on the logo of the BIOS screen. It...

Need to test my backup hard drive after it got dropped on the desk. Is it better to surface check the whole drive at once rather than surface check each partition separately? Would Svend's "Findbad" do this whole-drive check? Can any utility software get the hard drive to map any bad sectors not...
