Presario 4704 by TMedina174
I'm considering upgrading anything I can on an old Presario 4704. Any info on the motherboard type, what m/b would fit into the case , what I might need to consider in deciding to upgrade? I'd like to upgrade the motherboard, and the processor.

My PC is a few years old and came with JBL Pro speakers. There seems to be a loose wire but I don't know if these speakers can be opened so I can repair it. Would anyone know? And how to do it. Thank-you

Windows 2000 by Notme
How can I make games run full-screen? I'm using a Armada M700 laptop. In some games you can adjust the resolution higher to use full-screen, but then the game runs slower. - not good.. ex: Soldier of fortune 2, runs fine with 640x480 but does not use the whole screen.. --

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME question... by Matt
I have a 5430US and I can see where I can download a self extracting file on Compaq's site to fix the problem, but if I can't even boot the computer then how am I supposed to install the patch to repair it? Also is this a good indication that the HD is failing or is it simply a bad sector...

home built PCs vs. factory PCs by Tim923
In the past, usually someone helped me get home built PCs. That is, parts were all ordered, such as the casing, drives, motherboard, RAM, etc., and put together. Is it much cheaper that way? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Any problems with those...

We have a used computer with a PCI card that provides an "inverse parallel port" with a male end. What is it, and did the previous owner install it, or did it come with the machine? In the device manager, PCI Multiport Serial Controller, is in yellow with the question mark. XP Pro didn't seem to...

HP Compaq d330 ST -- which drivers ?? by Tim923
We have a used HP Compaq d330 ST with no warranty that appears to have never been used. However, they wiped the hard drive clean and there is no software that came with it. It looks like it's in the same shape it was in when sold, no hardware added or removed. I put on Windows 2000 Pro. ...

Does anyone know why both my Compaq and My daughters Advent both refuse to write to dvd+rs, even though mine is dvd+rw and daughter's is +/-? Both machines see new discs as full with zero information on them. Thanks in advance, Phil.

safe mode by Ned Protter
On my Presario 7922 with Windows 98, AdAware may stall when deleting malware. Presumably, that's because the malware is loaded. AdAware will delete this stuff in the safe mode, but I have trouble starting in the safe mode. I've tried each of the control keys and F8. What could be wrong?
