Did my video card die? by Metspitzer
I was playing Skyrim for about 3 straight hours. All of the sudden the screen just went blank. I could hear the sound but no video. I plugged the HDMI port into the on board port and still no video. I took out the video card HD 6970 and plugged the HDMI cable into the onboard and it...

Wordpad double spacing problem by [email protected]
Sometimes Wordpad will single space the lines in text, then all of a sudden it will switch to what appears to be double spacing every line. Why is that, and is there a way to make it go back to single spacing?

OT Just a quick tip about Firefox passwords by John Doe
If you want your passwords to be kept from others who have (or might gain) access to your computer, be sure to set a master password. Yes, I know not everybody fits the same mold, this does not apply to everyone. I just wanted to pass along that to my fellow Firefox users, something I recently...

wireless signal dropping by jinxy[_2_]
Hello, I am trying to figure out why my router is randomly dropping the wireless connection. It will go for days before it drops or sometimes just a few hours. The router in question is a Linksys WRT54g v.3 It is located in our crawlspace where it is cool and dry. There is a home phone modem and a...

Yet another heat issue by Quinch
Alright, so... I've got an overheating CPU problem {I bet you haven't seen one of those for a while!}. So, a quick rundown... replaced my old and grindy heatsink with a new one... except when the CPU runs at full capacity, the temperature gradually creeps up, and keeps creeping up indefinitely...

Does CF/SLI need compatible programs/games to work? by sillyputty[_3_]
I posted on a GTA4 forum about graphic drop-outs since I installed an XFX 6870 black edition (with latest driver). I've been thinking about adding another 6870 to run in CF. However, when I posted about adding the second video card someone answered that it wouldn't help GTA4 because the game isn't...

2 HDDs: 1 SATA & 1 ATA by Larc[_3_]
Looking for confirmation I'm doing the right things. Otherwise, suggestions... The ATA master on my second computer died suddenly. Of course, it had to be that and not the nearly empty slave. I'm kicking myself for putting off switching to a much newer SATA drive that's been gathering dust...

I'm thinking of getting another external usb-driven hard drive to use for various back-up imaging and general storage. I have 32 bit XP. I know it can see 500gig, can it see 1 terrabyte?

Strange Re-install issue WinXP Pro by Allen Drake
I am trying a clean re-install of Win XP Pro but I get a message to place CD in drive and access E:\i386 but E: is the drive I am installing to and not a CD Rom. I am using the OEM disk that came with the machine. I have searched Google for the same problem but I have found nothing that fits my...

What's the bottleneck when CPU and disks are not strained? by John Doe
Sometimes I wonder, when none of my four CPU cores are over 50%, and disk activity is minimal, why would a process seem slow? The system bus? Mainly curious. Thanks.

backups for a 2T hard drive by anotherpaul[_2_]
Never thought I'd ever ask, but what do people use for backing up large drives, like the 1 or 2 terabyte drives or larger? Hope not a "cloud/mainframe". Just installed a 2T onto the router for media (music) & will be doing a project to rip my CDs to the drive for access via DLNA. I'll...

I've just built my new system but I'm having strange heat issues. I can go into the bios to pc health section and about every three seconds the CPU heat monitor goes up a degree and after around 5 minutes it exceeds the maximum safe temp and the system shuts down. I'm using the stock CPU fan...
