Athlon XP/MP vs. Phenom by
Darren Garrison
I'm still running an ancient Athlon MP:
http://webpages.charter.net/garrison6328/currentcpu.jpg
I want to upgrade. I'm thinking about a Phenom 9100e, because I want the low
wattage (65 watt vs. 125 watt). But that processor runs at only 1.8 GHz core,
which is the same clock speed as my Athlon...

65w vs 125w by
Dave[_33_]
Is there a difference between the same CPU running at 65w vs 125w?
I see the same CPU on NewEgg with two different power requirements and
I'm not sure what the difference is.
Thanks!

Recommending a previous generation CPU by
TBerk[_2_]
Seeing as the latest hardware attaches a premium I'd like to plan on
building up the next system with an eye to saving a few dollars.
(I'm currently posting from a Pentium II system, my fall back due to
the P4 I had been using having given it's last true measure of
devotion.)
Still, despite this...

Seeing performance differences on single vs multi-core by
[email protected]
We are seeing some significant performance differences on single vs
multi-core processors on AMD chips.
We have a database application that we are running on XP which also
does regression analysis.
I have asked the manufacturer of the software if they have seen this,
but they have not. They are...

X2 vs X4 by
Dave[_33_]
If an application does NOT support multiple CPU cores, will it run
slower on a Phenom 2.4 GHz CPU than it would on an X2 2.4 GHz CPU?
I currently have a 2.2 GHz X2 and I want to upgrade it. My motherboard
supports the Phemon X4 but from what I'm reading, software that doesn't

Phenom 9850 Temperature Control by
Peter van der Goes[_2_]
Please share your solutions. My 9850 is running at 2.7 GHz with CPU voltage
set to 1.175V.
In a well-ventilated case (25C), SpeedFan reports CPU at 54 - 56C with very
little activity (web surfing, email, etc.)
No, I haven't run a full-on stress test for fear of the obvious.
I'm using a...

Why a 64 bit CPU when all my software is 32 bit? by
Al Dykes
Just asking.
What does a 64 bits system get me when none of my software or OS knows
about 64 bits and the aggregate memory demand doesn't come near 2GB
physical memory and 3GB in a new system will be plenty.
Memory bandwith might do it for me. The most demanding app I'll be
running is...
