customer refused goods ordered by Gaz
A few weeks ago I recieved a phone call from a potential customer, asking about the availability and pricing of second hand computers. I explained to the customer that I dont normally handle second hand computers, as long term reliabilty cannot be guaranteed, but, if he wanted me to, i knew a...

Time/Tiny dubious business practices? by Frank le Spikkin
By coincidence this week I've been involved in two cases of what appear to be very dubious business practices from the Time/Tiny group. 1) Modem locked to Supanet on a Time PC. Time have a financial deal with Supanet and the modem supplied is 'optimized' for Supanet i.e the driver won't let you...

Rant Begin A major hard disk crash meant that I had to order a new one in a rush. I placed an order with Novatech online last Thursday morning for delivery on the Friday. I even confirmed over the phone that the item was in stock, and that it would be with me before the weekend. Took the day...

PCWorld shock horror by [email protected]
After some weeks looking around for a USB PCI card with some internal connectors, and finding no budget kit in stock at the usual suspects, I decided to look at PCWorld's site. (I'd site an ad for a sale.) PCWorld has an offshoot that sells components. There, I found not just one option, but two,...

Warning about Microland Technology! Is this dodgy? by CosmicBaby®
Ordered a new Sapphire x800 Pro from them last Tuesday (1 June). At the time their web site said they had them in stock and were available for despatch from stock. However, two days later it still hadn't shipped so I emailed them to find out what was going on - no response. Then I noticed...

Dabs - how do I get them to respond to my problem? by John Geddes
Ordered a supposedly in-stock item last Wednesday. Emailed by Dabs the next day to say "The parcel has physically left dabs.com." It was supposedly sent by Parecelforce, for next-day delivery. Dabs followed up with an email to confirm they have taken the money from my Credit Card. Six days later,...

remember those cheap AOC 19" TFTs that ebuyer were doing? by Paul Hutchings
Who actually brought one? What do you think of it? I didn't and now I'm (again) getting sick of looking at a 15" TFT at home and an 18" TFT at work because the one at home suddenly seems a lot smaller than it did before I got my new work PC :-) I see that savastore.com and pcnextday (never heard...

Refused an RMA by scoot
I just bought some additional RAM from komplett, to go with an identical stick I bought from them a year ago. Now it turns out since then the (twinmos) RAM is being made with different chips, and even though the sticks have the same part numbers my PC crashes when they are combined. In their emails...

Maplin CD's shatter in drive by net
twice in the last month I've had the shock of a CD-R (that I bought from Maplin) exploding in the CD-drive. It's happened now in two different drives, both 52speed CD-Rom drives. It makes a right bank when it shatters and it ruins the drive completely. Anyone else had this happen?

Need advice from other vendors by Snowdon Computers
I have a peculiar situation and am unsure of the steps I should (or can) take legally. Brief history: - Between 28/4/03 and 25/5/03 customer bids, wins and pays for around 3 pallets worth of Compaq servers and accessories from me on Ebay informing me he will collect. - He then proceeds to make 2...
